Lifting my tj saturday.

Got my lift today, rough country 4". Ordered my tires yesterday, goodyear wrangler duratrac 33x12.5x15, with unique soft 8 style wheels, 15x8 -12 inset. I will post before and after pics when I am done.

Got the front done, had some issues, but looked up old threads and found good info. Should be done tomorrow. All my help bailed on me.

Going to try and post in order from start to finish.
First old vs new tires.

Before install (I am 6'2" tall for reference)

Front end teardown

Naked front, no shocks, springs, arms.

My son cleaning bolts

Break time. My buddy Dave(left) and me(right)

My kids helping out, rear end.

Finished

I will try and add more pics later. My wife has some on her phone.

Starting from the front, replaced springs, shocks, control arms, steering stabalizer, and sway bar links. Rear, springs, shocks, sway bar links, control arms. Transfer case drop kit. Had a problem broke 2 bolts on rear shock mounts, so had to drill new ones. Lots of rust underside, this tj came from Illinois. Took 2 days, about 26 hrs, this was my first major project on a vehicle. My friend Dave helpd for about 4 hrs on sat, the rest was me and some help from the kids.

Oh. Ok. Well tell me how it handles and all because I have a 4" lift and mine is really squirrely but I think almost all of the suspension parts on mine are pretty much stock...

Could you put up pics of what you did to the front suspension/steering? Just so i can use it as a reference to see if the PO actually did it right?

I have seen the links for sale seperately, or you could go with the disconnects on the front and give your jeep more wheel travel.

I would recommend you get a new adj front track bar, as it appears this kit had you drill a new hole, which never works out well and can lead to death wobble.

New track bar is in the future as well as a sye, but money was limited. I am planning more projects for 2012. Front and rear bumpers, sye and shaft, adj track bars and sway bar disconnects. After those we will see whats on the horizon. Any suggestions on what to start with on my list.

Looks a lot like burning money. Think of it like this. I sell you a 4" lift kit for X dollars. You install lift and everything looks good until you drive it and the vibes are bad. You call and ask why. I tell you to lower the T case to solve issue. So you paid for 4" and ended up with 2.5"-3".

True on losing some lift, but can be gotten back after spending about $800 on SYE and new shaft. So budgeting is a concern.

If you are spending $800 on a SYE/CV that is $250 too much.
