If you live in Maricopa or Pima counties, the cost is greater than that.

Here are the costs by category:

Title fee [first year only on new vehicles] - $4.00
Registration fee - $8.00
Air quality research fee - $1.50
Postage - variable due to USPS.
Vehicle License Tax - This is where is gets expensive and a bit confusing... Take the Manufacturers base retail price - 16.25% per annum for each year that the vehicle has been registered in Arizona. This rate is 15% if the vehicle was purchased before 01 August 1998.

From these amounts, the tax is assessed at $2.80 per $100 of valuation for a new vehicle and assessed at $2.89 per $100 of valuation for used vehicles.

If you live in Maricopa or Pima counties, you must participate in vehicle emission inspection and testing under order of the U.S. EPA. Those costs are variable depending on the engine configuration [gas or Diesel].
