Redneck, Do we need a State land trust permit to play in that area?

Coke ovens doesnt require a land use permit i run that trail quite often it gets muddy when it rains and can be some water crossings especially if you enter or exit from the gila river side. I just exited that way on sat after the heavy rains and there was quite a few long deep water/mud holes and water crossings. Jeep in front of me nearly got stuck had to back up and mash his throttle for about 45 seconds it was quite a show. There are some obstacles to cross if you go through the canyon the "step" being the worst and the stairs not too far behind but all in all its not a really tough trail just a bumpy ride most the way. Great scenery though and cool to see the ovens. If you guys need a leader let me know id love to run it again

Yah unless you go across the river after a recent rain or wet season there was actually quite a bit of water when i drove it this past saturday. I actually went through the box during the rain and there were about 10 cool looking waterfalls. My dad took pics ill have him send them to me and post em up tomorrow

Yes unless you run it after a recent storm and especially if you take the gila river way out. Lots of water/mud holes and a couple river crossings but wasnt super deep but the mud was nasty watched a jeep in front of me nearly get stuck had to back up and mash gas pedal for about 45 seconds to get thru the worst part. But yes generally very dry but great crawling and scenery fun drive through box canyon and interesting to see coke ovens few decent obstacles to overcome too especially for a stock rig

I go to Box Canyon area the most. Seems like it is the closest for me and has so much to offer....I am in a stock Unlimited Rubicon and it's going to be a yr or so before I lift it, so I prefer to go where I won't scrape or where it will be minor.

Box canyon coke ovens prett much all in the same thing box canyon is such a shortnrun you might as well run another trail too. Martinez cabin was nice too until they fenced it off cuz ppl destroying the cabin. Now you can drive to about 10 mins away from it and if you wana see it you gotta walk the rest

Yup. We did the back way thru Coke Ovens going thru that Gila River Loop a couple weeks ago. Only scraped once really and it was a great time! We've gone a few times in the "Box Canyon" area, including by Raymert mine near Martinez canyon. Neat area to explore. Might be out there this Saturday actually.

The gila river way is full of mud and water right now you can cross it still but plan on spending about 45 mins power washing your jeep if you dont want it covered in mud. I wont go that way again until the mud pits dry up more it was bad last saturday when i went and it was during that heavy storm we had too

You think it would be bad if we didn't cross the river? I'm hoping not since it's had a few days to dry out. I'm pretty sure we are going there this Saturday.

Im sure its still going to be muddy probably not as bad as it was but im sure it will still have some mud pits. You can always avoid em by going through box canyon if you dont mind the longer ride

The river wasnt the bad part its down in the trees where it doesnt see much sun and its like a canal almost thats probably still got some really soupy mud. I followed a jeep out and he nearly got stuck he had his jeep sideways and had to back up and mash his pedal to the floor for almost a minute to make it through the longest of the bogs it was quite a show of mud slinging

In and out the gila river way. Short and scenic. I have to wrap up by 2'ish and we may have a couple other guys from work going too. If anyone wants to meet up, respond and I'll post a meet location.

This sounds fun but I think i want to hold off a run like this until I get new tires. I'm just going to run the Apache trail and come back over the 4 peaks.
