Sutherland Trail Dec 7th

I and hopefully some of you will be running Sutherland Trail near Oracle.

Meet location: Valero Gas Station at Oracle and Golder Ranch Road
Meet time: 0900 Dec 7th
Depart: 0915 Dec 7th
Return: No idea

This run is said to be difficult. I have never been on this trail but I suggest that if you are in a stock non locked vehicle, you will not make it.

Hey Fernin, you may or may not be thrilled that i will try to make it, USMC posted this over on JKO. Was up there to just below the xtreme hill I believe earlier this year.

I am not worried about it, if someone has to be pulled, pushed or winched I am happy to do it. Not everyone can afford to dump all their money into their Jeep. I am one of those people. If we were going to an area where everything was 4-5s, then I would ask that people have the proper equipment so we are not helping someone the entire way. Everyone needs a little help sometimes. Or else you are not wheeling in the right places.
I know everything around here seems easy to you clull, but not all our Jeeps are at your Jeeps level of awesomeness.

Wwwhhhat? i dont know I have seen guys with lockers need to get winched out and the next guy with no lockers picks the right line.

I didnt know these trails were timed or that everyone had to be home at a certain time.

Are you going? or is it to bumpy?

I have seen alot of awesome jeeps on the trail...the problem is the guy driving it doesnt always know how to use it.

I have seen some Youtube videos on this trail and a guy I go wheeling with in another group has done this trail.

I dont think it will be beyond my rigs capabilities. I am with you ferninAZ, I ll help anyone in our group that needs it no matter how long it takes.

Thanks for being so welcoming Fernin. I have one winch and one locker on 33s and 2.5".....that's enough to get into and out of trouble. I too will help anyone to the best of my limited abilities and expect to be on both ends of rescues and assists as I have in the past. Of course I may just stop short of that last hill. Never good to be the guy holding everyone up much less being recovered next dayVery curious to see where the squeeze and "extreme" hill are compared to where I made it solo.

I understand that and that's y imo those jeeps should stick 2 trails theyre prepared for. Its 1 thing if the leader doesnt mind but another if u show up to a run with ppl that r expecting a certain capability and wen u dont have it they sometimes get irritated. If the leaders cool with it i say go 4 it but if they put requirements for a run its usually for a reason.

Again you're thinking of trails that don't require lockers but ppl are still using them 2 make it easier. If u don't believe this come 2 florence junction and bring an unlocked jeep and I'll bet u a dollar I can take u on at least 3 trails where the "right line" means nothing unless u have lockers or 40 inch tires.

Nobody said they're timed but that doesn't mean ppl wanna b out for 12 hrs waiting on somebody cuz their jeep is ill equipped for the trail theyre on. Again it comes down to the leader. If theyre cool with it i say go 4 it but if u have others going in ur group its just common courtesy to tell everybody "hey my rigs not quite up 2 par 4 this but wana try it anyway so be prepared for stops/delays" that's only fair to all the others that are going along too so they can make a decision whether they r willing 2 wait 4 u or not.

nah I'm not going on this 1. Too bumpy with not enough challenges for my rig. But its a free country so i can still give my unbiased opinion if i choose. God bless America. If u guys need any recovery assistance give me a shout but I'm sure ull b good. This 1 doesn't really require lockers if ur a decent driver. And I'm sure ull have at least a winch or 2 also. Hope you guys have fun. Safe Jeeping everybody

Really? I can put you in a 10 second truck here at the fairgrounds but I guarantee you won't get anywhere near 10 seconds.

There is skill in navigating trails also. But according to you there's no skill just how much money you can put into your rig.

I have done several trails in Florence with no issues, granted there are some I haven't done also.

As with any type of specialized groups there are the "snobs" of the trade.

If you think the driver of any motorized vehicle on any specialized activity. I.e rock climbing, racing etc has no bearing on how that vehicle performs your fooling yourself.

Nobody set any criteria on this ride..so?

I have a winch. I guess the group I normally go with is more flexible helping those in the group that may need to winch out by waiting 10 minutes or so to get that person out.

If the the person initiating the trail ride specifies certain criteria that I don't meet I don't go.

So until you set up a ride and want to specify rig criteria I don't meet your opinion matters to me as much as dog shit in the road.

12 -hours? To winch out ? That's pretty dramatic...are you a girl...

Even the most durable rigs break down/break...

If it's you needing a part etc...I hope you have to swallow some of that arrogance to ask for help.

Okay guys, we have a great bunch of guys here in southern Arizona and here in the Tucson forum but I gotta put my moderator hat on.

Things look to be getting heated and I know there are always allot of opinions regarding various rigs and/or driver's abilities but lets please keep things civil.

ok wow geez fellas, thanks for the offer of recovery assistance clull, hopefully we won't need it. Being underequiped es no bueno, but part of that is as a driver knowing when to stop and where you rig just cannot go. We all press our luck at some point or theres no challenge but thats dif than being a fool and making it hard on the group. I for one hope to be home for dinner and sliding into my slippers with a cocoa

Sorry you cannot make it Lyle, great close trail IMO. But work is better than not right? Another time...

Nice vids Jim, one of the hummer did what I guess is the squeeze, you'll like it. I did the shelf to the right last time

wonder if we'll see snow

Iam civil...but for a guy who isn't even going on this run and who has never met me or seen my rig on a trail...I think he's assuming alot.

I have laid out what my rig has in my sig except the winch, so if anyone feels I'll be dragging them down let me know.
