Lyle you need to get out more. Elvis is a little trail in Florence. Some hard obstacles but there are bypasses for everything.

What's up Tucson crew?
I am just getting into getting some mods on my JK, where are the places to stay away from in town when it comes to getting work done or picking up any mods. Let me know of place that you guys have had any good experiences. Any info is appreciated.

Up 'till now I've done all my mods myself. However, there is a place in town called Desert Rat that I have heard mixes reviews that I am planning on working with. I say mixed reviews because on-line there a couple of negative posts that, (to me) sound like a personality problem rather than work quality. They are supportave of local Jeep events and their prices seem good. They have several locations in town.
Hopefully, someone with more experiance will chime in.

Stay away from 4 wheel parts. Buy the parts you want and ask for some help. That is unless you like spending extra money for things that can be done by the tucson crew.

Don't be scared when you see the first obstacle on Elvis. Elvis is a cool trail because there are bypasses for everything.

And thanks to Joe for setting this up, his rig was not running but he came along anyway and was jumping from rig to rig, here he is with me in my "Sarge"

DOH, are you going to get new ball joints? If so that would be the time to put them in.

Holy Crap

Just about the time I think I find out what I need to safely run 35 inch tires someone else comes up with another requirement. WTF?

Okay, I'm not 100% sure what lift I have since it was put on by the PO. Rich says it is just a leveling kit. I am planning on putting on a 2.5 to 3-inch lift next year but I undersand the leveling kit will work for now as long as I am carefull. I was figuring that as long as I was going to put on gusetts I might as well as do the sleeves at the same time.

Do you think I should upgrade my ball joints now? That's a new one.
Do you really think that's necessary now? I love your upgrades but I'm only planning on doing moderate rock crawling (nothing like you, M&M and other folks) are the new ball joints really necessary now or should I wait untill I have problems?

Nice rig BTW

It is possible to weld on the gussetts with the ball joints in but if you were going to change them out that is the best time to do it. I did see that another company is making greasable one as well now for 100.00 a side.

Thanks a lot of time and money have gone into that thing. Now I just need to take it out and shake it down.

Thanks for the info. Ya, when I upgrade my tires I want to do it right and have things solid to prevent problems.

When the dust settles from that, I'll address lift issues

Is there any online info on the trail you just did? I live in Apache Junction so I'm just as close or closer to Florence then you all are.

That was my first time there so I couldn't tell you, I was a follower. I did find a link that may be helpful, not sure if it is the same place (everyone just called it Elvis) but here you go: 4x4wire.com - Martinez Canyon - Florence Junction, Arizona

Like alot of trails there is not much information as far as where they are located at. That way the tree huggers will not know the locations and try to get them shut down. There have been about 5 trails in the last few years that have been closed in Florence.

What information were you looking for?

Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm in tucson and am in the process of purchasingmy first jeep. This forum has already saved me a ton of money, and I don't even have my rig yet. My name is Casey and I would love some pointers in first important mods (lift and tires, i'm assuming?) and thebest beginniner trails to hit once I do get my rig, dealership says december. I'm sure once I get my feet wet a bit,I'll be able to contribute a bit more. Though I am in the medical profession and it never hurts to have an RN out in the boonies. maybe I can help contribute that way until I learn more. Anyway, good to meet you all.
