Question Help With Buying a Used Wrangler

Live in Southern Indiana - Louisville KY area. Planning to purchase a used Wrangler this Fall. A 40 birthday gift for my wife. Something she has always wanted - soft top Wrangler. We have never owned a Jeep. Don't know that much about them. Where is a site(s) or books that would help me understand / learn what to know and look for when purchasing a used Wrangler? What to avoid - what to inspect Besides Consumers. Planning to spend $12K -$13K. Based on some initial browsing seems a 1999 - 2005 with 70,000 - 120,000 miles falls into this price range depending on variables. This will be a third vehicle - weekend and nice weather with the top down. Minor off roading. Any assistance and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

This is the place to get all those questions answered!

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17 (KJV)

Your definitely looking at a Tj Wrangler.. I personally like the 4.0l motor.. That motor though is the king of oil pan gasket leak sometimes valve cover and loves breaking the stock exhaust manifold. The oil pan and valve cover leaks are nothing to write home too. They usually don't even drip. For your price range at least in Denver you can get a pretty modified Wrangler. I just bought my 2nd Wrangler. '03 Rubicon and only had 62k on the odomiter. Any more questions feel free to pm and I would love to help out a new Jeep buyer.. I have owned and built 81 cj7 .. 85 cherokee, 98 Tj and now my 03 Rubicon also got a grand cherokee.

I'm new to Jeep too. I looked at Consumers but I dont they they give a fair review of the Wrangler. They compare it to mall crawlers and you just cant do that. Edmonds is a good site to get reviews and info (besides this forum). Check Auto Trader for whats out there. If you havent got it yet - Good Luck on your hunt.

I have always bought early 90s Wranglers and put money into them, their cheap and more important easy to work on. You can find them with low miles around $4000, I've done this with three and never had an issue.I've always used craigslist
