I will guess you have 3.73's. Also if you have an axle tag on the diff, it might say on there as well.

you need to check how many bolts are on the axle hub and what shape it is.. or you can check the tag on the axel.. year and model doesnt matter because wranglers had the option from the factory to come with diff axle gear ratios

Okay clue me in what are the number of bolts on the axle hub and conditon is going to tell you about the gear ratio? TJ's came with 3.07 3.55 and 3.73 w/ the 6cly and 4.10 for the 4 banger as far as I know.

Do you have a D44 or D35? Auto? If it's a D35, 3.07's... D44, 3.73.

The '99 Sport came only with 3.07 or 3.73, Jeep stopped installing 3.55 after '97. Look at the steel tag held between two differential cover bolts at its 9 o'clock position, you'll find the ratio embossed into that tag. Because there is a .01 ratio difference between the front and rear axles with some ratios, it could for example say "3 74" or "3 73" (there is no decimal point when looking at the embossed ratio).

well, i just went out and looked at mine. i have the 3.07. everywhere i have looked online i can't find anything that works with the 3.07 and 33" tires. any suggestions, or does nobody make a gear for that? it seems like it would be pretty common.

You can try swapping the shafts but i personally had bad experience with it. I think you'll have to warm the gear up a bit to loosen it since its very brittle. Anyhow i remember i hit it and it cracked..
Another person on the jeep forum says he has done it successfully so.. You can also try your dealership.. ask for part 52067626 Also do your self a favor and buy an O ring. Last edited by Triple88a; 10-16-2008 at 02:16 AM. |
