Over here 95% of all Wranglers since 2007 have the 2.8 CRD diesle engine.
An European car magazine wrote some days ago that Fiat will stop many Chrysler models in 2012: PT Cruiser, Commander, Compass, Patriot, Viper, Nitro and Avenger. Most of the new models from 2012 on will base on Fiat technology.

Interesting. thanks for sharing. a diesel could be a good move in certain markets. With goals of 800k, they have to be thinking of expansion of the overseas markets and diesel certainly seems to play well in european market. With the comments about the interior, makes me think that with the intro of the unlimited, the wrangler is kind of becoming what the cherokee used to be, but much more. I just hope they don't take it too much upmarket and have it become something other than what it has always been. For some reason that seems to happen to car/truck models over time. Love the unlimited of course but also love that it is still "all Jeep" if that makes sense...

don't get me wrong or anything, i love jeep, my jeep and the wrangler...and think that this is a good step for chrysler, but i kinda don't like the idea of everyone out there driving a jeep like me
800k? yiikes that's a lot of jeeps.plus, my hand will get tired of waving too.

You only have the 3.8L in the US. Drive a 2.8 CRD and you´ll see that it´s way better.

Well from reading on the web.. I am hearing the the 2.8 crd is a POS.. and they are getting 20mpg on average.. thats not worth the price of diesel fuel.
Id be happy if the 4.0 somehow get 20mpg.. its only 7 more mpg but it would make me feel a hole lot better.. that or gas prices should be like it was in 1995..lol |

OK call me doom and gloom but....
"In the next 14 months the Wrangler will undergo two major improvements, Finkbeiner said. First, the interior of the vehicle while undergo an over-haul. Second, in late 2010 a diesel-fueled Wrangler will be released." Then I think the next design will have IFS and AWD. I hate to say it but that is the only way they will be able to sell 800,000 jeeps. |

They've been talking about putting diesel's in Jeeps for a while now or atleast every year there always seems to be mention of it for the past 5yrs.
So until I actually see it on the showroom floor, won't really hold my breath on that one. And the day I see one on the floor, will be buying one. Chris

I think a diesel jeep would be pretty sweet - having said that would I run out and buy the first run of them, probably not. I would hope they can eek out better than 20mpg though as diesel engines are more expensive and fuel is (at least at current) also more expensive that gas.

Shaggy Dog Story: 4 or 5 years ago, I brought my Durango to the local Chrysler stealer for a couple of maintenance chores. While standing outside of the service shop waiting for the advisor dude, I noticed a new Wrangler with some diesel badges sitting by it's lonesome in the parking lot. I'm a big diesel fan so I went over and took a quick peek at it and the service manager came over to gab with me about my shop work. I asked him about the diesel and he said "All I can tell you is that it's not for sale." End of that discussion.
IF that's the 2010 offering, then it's been tested for awhile...might be a good one.

They've offered them overseas for quite a while now, they just can't pass emissions here is my understanding of it, I believe that's why the CRD liberty went away. I drove a CRD Liberty for a few weeks last year, great to drive, totally different from the gas version.
