the vibe on this forum is body lifts arnt good, dont buy em, and get a bigger suspension lift. but heres my situation.
i have a 06 tj with 33 inch tires and a 2 inch lift. fits fine and looks well, BUT i have no room to flex. body lare are pretty cheap compared to lifts and id feel like a sucker if i put a 4 inch suspension lift on it. so a body lift seems to fit my problems, cheap and plently of flex room.

whats not good about body lifts? im thinking about a 1 or 2 inch, so i can flex >
or else im just going to get a suspension lift in a year or 2 and not do any major 4wheelin, which is no fun

There's nothing wrong with a one inch body lift. Two inches is a little too much for my taste but it isn't bad.

Also don't forget to plan ahead when you do a body lift if you plan on putting any armor on your Jeep in the future. Some skid plates require them (one inch) and some won't work with them.

why would you feel like a sucker for buying a suspension lift?

Body lifts more than 1 or 1.5 inch look goofy. They put more leverage against the body mount/bolt. Just my opinion.

IMO, Big Body lifts 1.5" + just look bad.

my 2 inch lift was installed by the dealer and iv only had the car for a week.

sounds like a pian, but rather be flexing now then in a year or 2 i reckon
i am planning on putting a 3 piece skid plate combo when i get my tax return, oil pan, steering box, and fual tank, hopefully the standerd warn skid plates will fit.

my TJ looks bad because of the 2" BL?

some people don´t like BLs over 1".
but it´s not truw what some other people say. BLs aren´t a dangerous thing and the BL bolts won´t shear off.

My 2" BL Took me 4 hrs to do from start to finish including 2 clean ups and 2 taking out tools reason for that is i started at 6pm one day, an hr later it started raining, next day i finished it up...

Before i covered up the step gaps.

what kind of BL kit did you use? any problems, anything you have to add on or watch out for once you have a BL kit?

I found some black mountain kit from ebay. It came with everything i needed. So far i'm happy with it.


Mine was from this seller and it was a black mountain but it was for a TJ. Might want to give this guy a call or an email and see if they have any BLs for TJs.

Mine was about 90-100 bucks shipped to my house.

i have a BL kit from performance accessories. it´s the only one that´s stret legal here in germany.they made crash test with these lifts and there were no problems.

the kit came with everything that was needed to install the BL.
it took about 3.5 hours to install (it that was the first thing i installed in a car in my life).

do those body kits come with the materials to raise the engine and bumper brackets? and if needed radiator... these are the mian issues ic read about body lifts.

no lift in my knowledge comes with bumper brackets, they come with radiator brackets (6 of them) The engine lift is called Motor Mount Lift (MML) and that costs extra.

With 2" bl you will need to cut a small portion of the radiator holder if you have AC. Dont worry though its very very easy.

if you install a 1" or 1.25" BL together with a 1" MML you don´t need to install the fan shrould lowering brackets.
what kind of 2" lift does your jeep have? if it has loner 2" springs you could put some cheap 1" spacers on top of the springs for a bit more lift.

I have heard some people say that you can turn the bumper upside down and get rid some of the "hardcore" gap.


Maybe someone on here has tried it or knows about it. I just read it somewhere and am not real sure about it. Trip might have time to do a little flip and see if it works though.

a tire carrier will get rid of that gap easily, over the summer i'll see if i can flip the rear bumper however my sticker will be the wrong way then so i will have to remove it

i covered the gap at the rear with some backup lights and rear fog lights.
if you don´t know that i have a 2" BL you will not notice it.

Those things are amazing, if i knew how they ride i would have gotten them long ago.

my old YJ and old TJ could have been much more comfortable. but i didn´t know that the bad stock shocks were the reason for the stiff ride.

That would be funny to see it the right way. I always liked those stickers. A friend of mine has the other upside down one.
