Default Code/unknown issues

Hello, My Jeep made a "cachunk" sound the other day...the transmission appeared to be stuck in 2nd/higher gear and would not change...my check engine light came on and the OD button would not light up... and I checked the code "P0303"=misfire on #3 cylinder...here's where the mystery starts..I turned the iginition off and the check engine light went away, the OD light would come on when I pushed it and the transmission returned to normal...uuugghhh! This seems to only happen when I do interstate driving (70-85mph)...PLEASE HELP WITH ANY EXPERTISE!!
2004 TJ SPORT

AUTOMATIC TRANNY

THANKS!

I would say it is a shift solenoid sticking.I have not had a problem with my Jeep but I have a 95 Nissan Altima that goes into limp mode(stuck in 2nd gear) if I spin the tires in the winter time. After I turn the key off and restart again it is good to go again until the next time the tires break loose. It has done this for the last 50,000 miles and still runs and drives just fine as long as it is getting traction.Hardly ever happen in the summer unless I hit a mud hole or something.I doubt you see any mud on the interstate but its an idea.

Are your spark plugs and wires good? Something similar happened to me in my Chevy truck a few years ago. If not the plugs and wires a fuel injector could be bad (thats what mine was) and if you replace one you might as well replace them all.

Thanks for the advice...I was going to change the spark plugs on my off day...I will also purchase a shift solenoid...this is just so weird, I drag raced cars for a long time and never had this issue...I will advise if the above work...thanks again for spending time to help!!

You do realize the shift solenoid is inside the trans pan right???It should have a pack of 4 in it and really hard to say which one it is.Before you buy one I would check with Dodge dealership to see what they say. Most of the time the techs will let you know if it is a known or common problem.
