I heard somewhere that New Jersey doesn't register vehicles with red headlight bezels. I could be wrong though.

you shouldn't. since the dmv has been privatized it is a lot easier to get things done. call the dmv if you have any specific questions though, just in case.

In NY or NV you would not have a problem.
Sorry, I don't know about NJ.

Right off the bat, NJ does not allow tires to be exposed past the side. They must be covered completely.

registering shouldnt be any different, insuring the same. The only problem i see is the inspection mainly emissions. If jersey is anything like PA they will hook up a OBDII connector to your vehicles obd port and scan computer for DTC's and rediness codes. This includes misfire, air, cat(s), o2's... Ide take it to have it checked before buying to make sure the conversion was done right and it passes.
i wouldnt touch it personally. ive had nice cars that had been "improved" and were the most unreliable POS. And the most reliable ones were bone stock and i modified myself.

it won't work for what? if he puts on smaller meats then he won't need to take the tilt test because there won't be enough lift - so he'll get a sticker and that's that
no one is ever going to compare his present tires to whats written down anywhere

I would contact the DMV and ask what are the regulations on motor swaps. To get it inspected "officially", it might not fly. There are regulations regarding the year of the vehicle and the year of the donor engine. Along with the donor engine there are regulations about the emissions equipmentthat went with the donor motor and computer. If you are getting it inspected through a private shop you know, you may get away with some things.

no one is ever going to compare his present tires to whats written down anywhere | heres the deal IF YOU WANT TO MAKE IT LEGAL most people dont you will need to bring that jeep to stability to have it tested if you want to put smaller tires on for the test go ahead the tires you take the test with are the tire size listed on the inspection sticker so if you go home and put the 35s back on the inspection sticker still has 29 written on it however a jeep like that should pass. most people in nj dont bother with stability because its a joke however if you live in souther nj and dont have the right sticker the cops can and will bust your balls if you have a overly lifted truck |
