| Evap Emissions Canister
Pardon my stupidity, and I did actually post to an existing thread, but got no answer. I'm unable to locate the evap canister on my Wrangler (4.0). I've got the Haynes manual which includes very detailed information for the location... on a 4-cyl. There's also excellent pictures. Here's the thing: I see nothing matching the pictures *anywhere* on my 4.0, and nothing at all where they describe in the manual. I'm getting an error code (3 actually) 442, 456, and... eh... something else. At any rate, they amount to EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM FAILURE (small leak, medium leak and large leak). I had the same issue last June. I replaced the gas cap, which did nothing, but shortly afterward the problem went away. I've tightened the cap, and will replace it tomorrow, but I'd just like to be able to visually inspect the canister... *if* I can find it.

Your profile says you have a 2001... So, yeah, should be in the passenger side rear quarter behind the inner fender.

A-HAH!!! That would 'splain a lot. Thanks. So I just like when working on the connections for the third brakelight, I have to go up inside the plastic lining, correct?

Yeah, you sure do. When Cain did my flat tail lights that evap was a pain.

I might be wrong but I think the evap canister on pre-03 model years was still located in the engine compartment near the brake booster. I think it is mounted on a bracket on the inner fender there. If so you are in luck because, as Tiny and Cain said, it can be a pain in the butt to access it when it is in the rear fender.
check the canister itself first for any obvious cracks. Then check the hoses. Maybe they've just rotted or cracked?

Thanks for posting that illustration. It's right there, but looks *nothing* like the photo in the Haynes manual. Thanks!
