Yes, you will have to change the carriers too.
Cheapest route is to find someone with a 4-banger that regeared - the 4 cyl's come with 4.10's.
I found a set of gears/carriers/etc with 7000 miles on them at a swap meet for $75. Cost me $450 to have them installed.
It was definitely worth it. No more clutch slipping at stoplights and offroad it makes a big difference. FYI - I'm also running 31's and went from 3.07's.
