| half doors interchangeable? big black tires factory?
hi guys. i am new to wranglers, but have always loved them and wanted one. well, i am finally getting serious about it, and had some noob questions.
1. i wanted a jeep with the half doors. local dealer doesn't have a six cylinder with half doors. i asked if he could swap half doors for me, and he stated that the doors are different sizes.. and are not interchangeable. basically the space on one is bigger (i.e. wider) on one. is this true?
2. lately i have seen several wranglers with slightly larger tires mounted on black wheels. is this a factory option?
thanks alot everyone.

Welcome to WF Pointman.
I am fairly new myself to the world of wranglers, but I am almost positive the stock wheels do not come in black.. (if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me).....most larger/wider tires and wheels out there are put on aftermarket....as far as the wheels it seems that more and more people are getting the black wheels (or they have always been there but I have never notice, but now that I have my wrangler....I notice every frickin jeep that is within my vicinity)
As far as the door question.....sorry I am not that knowledgeable yet....so I'll leave that to the experts on the forum.
Good luck with your Jeep and I hope I was of some help.

Welcome to the WF pointman. All I can help you with is the wheels and tires. Both of my Jeeps have the doors that came with them. I would think that all new Jeeps have the exact door openings. The only variances there would be, would be between different body styles, CJ's - YJ's - TJ's, and perhaps a slight difference in the year model. To make sure, just take a tape measurer with you to the dealership, and check it yourself. And then you can tell the salesman that he is full of poop. As for the rims, the black ones are all aftermarket. Guess you could say that they are cheaper than the alloys, or chrome wheels, hence more popular. I have seen some dealerships put larger tires, and rims, on a lifted, brand new Jeep, to make it more appealing to buy.

BS! He wants to sell you what he has on the lot. Find a different dealer, or buy the doors you want on ebay, a club forum, or a site like this one. 2. lately i have seen several wranglers with slightly larger tires mounted on black wheels. is this a factory option?
Nah, the black wheels & bigger tires are the "gateway drug" - i.e. the beginning of Jeep Mod Addiction, or as it's also known Just Empty Every Pocket syndrome.
Seriously though, 30" is the biggest factory tire size. Many of us run considerably larger, although 33 is about the practical limit for a street-driven Jeep, and 31" is a happy medium.
The black wheels are steel, not alloy, and so are cheap (~$50). That's why alot of people buy them - cheaper to buy and cheaper to replace if you trash one on the trail.
Welcome, and have fun. Don't forget to wave.

Tdad's hit it right on for ya! that dealer is just trying to get rid of what he's got. if you get the one with the full doors, you can probly sell them on a forum or on ebay and then buy some half doors/soft uppers and have some cash left over to put towards future mods!! and those black wheels are the cheapest to get as bigger tires and wheels can easily cost well over 1K, so if you can save a hundred or so per wheel, it helps alot!

i know.. i was going to buy it and leave it stock, but thats so hard to do when i see some really nicely modded ones driving around.
$50?! whoa! i thought they were powdercoated or something making them even more experience. i am going to have to jump on that bandwagon. haha
thanks for the welcome. this place is great.

I know that is really BS because just to day amy want to see what the half doors would be like on her jeep and her jeep is black too so we put my doors on her jeep (which came with full doors) and it worked great. and every thing fit nothing is different between the tubs the only variance is the doors them selves either it is full or half, even the door frame for the soft top is the same. OHHH by the way her jeep is an 02 and mine is a 97 so it even goes between years.

Something similar happend to me when i went to by my jeep. I had a dealer tell me that no wrangler came with soft top and full doors!
at first i was like oh damn... then i thought about it and called him out on it right on the lot! he got all shakey and realized i knew way more about wranglers than he did! I should have gotten a manager!
Don't let those tricky sales people change your mind on what you want on YOUR jeep!
welcome

If you want to buy a new jeep, go online and do deal inventory searches. Find the one you want and request a quote online. You might have to try a few dealers to get one that will play ball. I did it a 4 years ago, found the one I want and got about $4000 off MSRP without stepping foot on a lot.

Pointman, you found a very good reason to not buy your jeep at that dealer, but to not use there parts dept as well(sometimes we have to). When you do buy your jeep, remember to warn your fellow jeepers not to patronize that stealership.
