That factory parts catalog shows it being a 103 for "instrument cluster illumination" which equals out to being the "same socket as the 74 bulbs, just the 103s have an enlarged head"
Cherokee Forum 103 bulb

That's what I thought as well but since there is only 1 bulb between the tach and speedometer it blends the colors both ways

Hardermods, when you say "super bright" are you referring to the 74-xHP high power SMD bulbs?
I'm excited. This solves my minor annoyance of not being able to change the colors on my head unit to match the dash lights. Now I just need to figure out the HVAC control lights. I really need to get a manual.

I went with the 74-x, if I reordered I would get either the HPs or the HP3s due to if you look at my pic of the full blue ones, you can see a few areas that are brighter than the rest.
Looks like for the Hvac your going to need the T4 Neo-wedges, Hvac Bulbs I cannot confirm this because I have not done mine yet. But I believe the link takes you to a trusted site

I replaced my bulbs in my 03 tj (which should be the same type of bulbs in yours). Got mine from super bright leds. Used 6 of the T-74 for the instrument cluster and 3 of the neo-4 wedge base for the hvac. Tried the blue at first and it was blinding going down the road. Ended up going with the red ones instead and looks good and not to bright.

Sylvania shows 74 & 194 for my 97. I know that the cluster changed sometime around 00/01. Does anyone know what I'll need for my 97?

You'll need the 74. If you want to redo the high beam indicator you will need a total of 6 bulbs

I just did this mod over the last couple of weeks. I originally ordered from autoillumination.com, ended up using their #74 Tri-LEDs for the cluster, but had to go through 8 of them to get 5 that worked. Also, I trashed the rest of the order for the HVAC & Switches....complete crap in my opinion and re-ordered from superbrightleds.com which were awesome.
I made a video of the install to help out anybody, 'cause I referenced like 3 different wranglerforum threads and the sylvania website before I felt comfortable making my orders and doing the mod.
Here is the video link below: (also if you just want to skip to the end of the video I took snapshots of the specific part numbers that I ordered and where they went)
