I'm slowly moving twards 33's with a 2" OME lift, and 1.25 BL, and JKS discos. I'm rather confident that I'll be OK with this setup. What I'm wondering, is if I can use my stock wheels on this setup? I know the 33's are 12.5 wide and the 30's that are on the Jeep now are 10.5 wide. I don't know if the stock wheels backspacing is enough. I'd rather not run spacers.

Lots of folks run 10.50's on stock rims.. which one's do you have? I am thinking you may get some rubbing on the lower control arm at full turn but you could adj your steering stops if needed.

For an '02 Sport, the factory tires are 30-10.5 15, and they don't rub at all. I don't know what the factory wheel is other than it's a Canyon Crawler or something along those lines. They're aluminum mags. I know the 30-10.5 will fit them (they've been there since '02), but will the 33-12.5's run ok on the stock mag wheels? I'd rather run the stock mags if I can rather than buy soft 8's.

OIC... I ran 33x12.50's on 15x8 rims with 3.75BS and they rubbed the paint off the lower control arm at full turn. I just checked my canyon rims in the basement 15.x8 so width wise your good for the 12.50. I would say its going to rub with the stock rim alot..

It's not a matter of having enough backspacing, it's that the factory wheels have too much backspacing for 33x12.50 tires. The more backspacing, the more inside the wheelwell the wheel is positioned. The factory wheels have 5.25 to 5.5" of backspacing which positions a 12.5" wide tire in too much which makes it rub on the suspension.

You want wheels with a maximum of 4.5" of backspacing with 4" being even better. 3.75" is the least amount I would run however as less than that causes the tires to stick out too far.

4Jeepn, 3.75" of backspacing normally gives plenty of clearance for 12.5" wide tires, that's what I run. But if your inside sidewalls are rubbing, just place a washer or two under the steering bolt stop on the side opposite to the tire that is rubbing.

Stick with a 15x8 wheel. A 15x10 is wide enough that a 12.5" tire has more trouble staying seated when the tires are aired down for offroading than it does on a 15x8 wheel. In other words, it takes more air pressure to hold the tire beads spread out 10" than it does 8". A 15x10 is fine for street use of a 33x12.50 but if you go offroad, a 15x8 is a better all-around size. I run a 15x8 for my 35x12.50 tires and among offroaders, that width wheel is preferred for 12.5" wide tires.

And if you looked at a 12.5" wide tire and measured it, you'd find the 12.5" width is only at its widest point which is the mid-point half-way up its sidewall. At the tread and beads, a 12.5" wide tire is more like 9-10" wide.

This is why I love this place, so much good info to keep a n00b like me from making a costly mistake I'm glad to hear 15 x 8 will work better since they are about $20 a piece cheaper than the 15 x 10. Looks like I'll store the Canyon Crawlers that are on there when the time comes. Thanks again Jerry
