im sure there are tons and tons of threads bout this but i dont have to time to search them all so here are my new issues
last night i put on my 2 inch budget boost, everything went fine, almost too fine, nothing under there was horribly tight or rusted over, big suprise since its a 99. so while i had it in the air i went around and made sure everything else was tight which it was. but then on the way home from the shop i noticed that my jeep drives COMPLETELY different and not in a good way. my jeep seems to like to wander now. the steering is super sensitive and almost feels like the rear end is floatin from side to side! that and i get a good vibration at 70 mph which i think would be a slip yoke issue. but the highways around here have constant little bumps, making it feel like a very minor death wobble,i understand the fact that modifying the suspension in any way is goin to alter the driving characteristics but i didnt think 2 inches would do that! can anybody help me out on what needs to be added to atleast get it to feel safe again? and with the slip yoke issue, will it hurt to run it like that for a while or is it a must have now thing. thanks for any input!

Did you do an alignment after you installed the lift? It sounds like you have too much toe-in and that's why your steering feels twitchy or "too sensitive".

i needed to drop the TC with some washers after i installed my old 2" BB.
you have to make an alignment after the lift. then your steering problem will be gone.

As far as the "issues", don't feel too bad, we've all got issues around here, just some are a little more expensive than others!

For the rear end and vibes, check your cam bolts that went in the rear. Those must be adjusted correctly and the same on both side. Try adjusting them to a different position to see if that improves anything. On my 99, they needed to be in the 12 oclock position and driving is smooth as silk.

You didn't disconnect the rear sway bar? That had to make things a little difficult.

You said you had it done at a shop, right? Did they, by chance, DELETE your rear trac bar?

no no lol, i work as a painter at a car dealership and have a lift in my shop that where i did it at. with the vibration and havin to put the spacers in with the tc, is the vibration goin to cause any damage or is it more less of a comfort issue? i wanted to drive to chicago tonight (150 miles) and me and my buddy were goin to put the spacers in in the morning. you think thatd be okay or no?

Assuming the vibe is from the driveline, you don't want that to go too long. Basically wearing on the joints. But did you ever get it aligned? I figured that would cure quite a bit and then you'll know more about what kind of vibe remains. FYI, I had a slight vibe on my 98 from a 2" BB and never did anything about it b/c it was only present for the first 1 or 2 feet on a takeoff and then went away. On my 04 had vibes that were so bad the DS was clicking loudly from the joints hitting each other during rotation and HAD to be dropped immediately.

well i think its from the driveline, its really not bad at all. i drove it last night to chicago and have death wobble now, not as bad as what i had before on my old cherokee but its there! but when your drivin a 3 hour trip ya figure out how to correct the problem. i figured out when it starts to wobble, if i move the wheel to the right just slightly it corrects itself. i wonder what the deal is. i did have it aligned and the only thing they could really adjust was the toe it was WAY off. the caster is at 5 degrees, and its suppose to be around 7 but they said it shouldnt make a difference. im goin to go out and buy the needed bolt and shims for the caster and have them do it. being a GM dealership straight axle alignments are few and far between

Are your track bars TIGHT? How about your front sway bar links? You said your rears are connected but are the fronts tight? I just installed a 4" kit with the sway bar links discoed and everything is perfect (still not even aligned since i'm holding off till i get an adjustable front track bar).
I do think the Caster makes quite a bit of difference. |

yeah the front sway bar bolts are tight, i agree caster would do a huge difference. the jeep seems to pull to the right, so when in the right hand lane of the highway my wheel is cocked to the left, i hit a bump and the wobble starts but if i make the steering wheel straight it goes away. so i figured out that if i run in the left lane i have no problems at all well except for people flippin me off when they have to pass me in the right lane! lol oh well. with all that in mind its gotta be an alignment issue, when i get back to work tommorow im goin to have them recheck the camber thats gotta be it, and of course the caster i want them to zero everything out so if the problem persists i can rule the alignment out! but my buddy gave me a set of decent 32 11 50's so i'll post some pics of it looks good!

Yeah, that's the problem with a dealership doing the alignment. I went through the same thing. No fault of theirs, they just don't think outside the box. I wasted $ at dealer and then went to offroad shop that had it aligned perfectly with zero DW in about 20 mins. After the alignment I'd dbl check the axle end of the tracbar and get as tight as you can. It could have the slightest undetectable movement in it that was not a problem before. But with a change in caster any play will reveal itself. Also may go ahead and replace your SS if you haven't already done that.

okay cool! when i twist the trac bar, i see movement at the axle, the bolt, the nut (well whatever it threads into with the tab hangin down) and the trac arm itself. looks like the other end could use some grease as well. i dont have the proper size torc bit for it here at home but you can bet its goin to get the crap tightened out of it tommorow at work! thanks for your help! if this works im givin you a cyber beer!

. That "tab" you referenced has the bolt attached so all you'll have to do is tighten the front torx bolt. I think it's #55 but not sure. These are the torque specs from 4x4Xplor: • Track Bar Frame Castellated Bolt: 19mm - 65 ft. lbs. • Trackbar Axle Mount Bolt: 15mm - 55 ft. lbs. I'm guessing my axle mount bolt is 2x that. The frame end most likely won't need tightening since it has the castellated bolt and pin. Just needs greased. Not sure what they are but I'm sure they can be found. A Jeep dealer will have them but you could probably also google it up from somewhere.
