Hey guys,
I just got an '05 unlimited, and I am already looking into doing a lift kit on it and putting bigger tires on. I need to be able to maintain highway speeds (75 would be great) for the longer trips. I was thinking a 2" lift? What do you guys think? If you have any pictures of a 2 door unlimited that have 2" lifts or so, could you post them in a reply?

I don't have a LJ or a 2" lift, but my 06 TJ with a long arm 6" drives just fine on the freeway.

Get the best tires for the job though. If you drive in a lot of rain/snow, I'd recommend A/T's instead of Mudders.

Unless you buy a junk lift, tires will be THE thing that affects your highway driveability.

'05 Lj with 33" tires, 3" spring lift with 3/4 spacers, a 1" BL, and 373 gears. I love it. It will run 70 or so at 2500 rpm all day. It can actually use 6th gear on the interstate. It is a little less stable than stock, but not by much. I agree with the above tire comment. When it had BFG All terrains (32") and the same lift, it drove better than new. First pic is on 32" and second on 33s.

I think this pic was 2" BB with a 1" BL and 32s. If you can learn anything from me, decide what you want to do first and then keep moving in that direction. I have redone mine three times now and am just getting it right. I was always reluctant to go to 33s but now I know I should have done it long ago.
I also pull a ~2000 pound camper with mine and it does OK. It really saps the power when I'm towing though.

My sway bar end links broke so mine won't drive straight anymore But like the other guys said, unless you got broken shit like me -- You'll be just fine! I regularly took mine on the interstates (70+ mph) and never had much trouble unless you count bad mpg! And I don't have cruise .... But yeah. Do it.

ok thanks guys. I drove 8 hours today up to Canada and did pretty well as far as gas mileage... roughly 18 mpg average on the highway. How much will my mpg hurt with a lift?

I have an '05 TJ, with a 2.5" lift on 31s and I drove to Florida this past weekend (I'm still here) which is about a 13 hour drive, and averaging 75-80 mph, I was still getting about 14 mpg with the top down in 6th gear. I was getting about 17 with the top and windows up.

OK that sounds good to me. Are the 31's A/T? What do you think about the Rubicon Express 2" budget Boost? I have heard some talk about them. Are they a smooth ride? If not, what shocks are the best for smoothness with ride quality?

I will be honest with you. Way pay a few hundred on budget boost when you could purchase a 2.5 lift that includes coils and new shocks for just a little more. Also gives you a little more stiffer ride than stock. Just my 2 cents.

I have been getting an annoying vibration when i hit about 55 mph and up. I have a 4" suspension lift with 33 BFG A/T. Any suggestions?

Death wobble. i used to have the same problem. could be anything. look over your alignment, balance of your tires, track bar angles or looseness, warped brake rotors, or mine was caused by my steering stabilizer. when i took my old one off the shaft would slide in and out on its own just by turning it upside down and right side up. i went with a RE stabilizer cause it fit my price range but if you want a better one go for the OME. hope this helps

1) My 31s at A/Ts.
2) I would suggest the Rough Country 2.5" lift with the Performance 2.2 Shock Upgrade over a BB. It's a bit more stiff than stock, but just guessing, it seems like a BB would compress it to the point of being just about as stiff anyhow.
3) Death Wobble over 55. I had this problem when I first bought my Jeep. It would only be between 55 and 60. I could power through to 61 and it would stop. I lifted the Jeep 2.5 inches with that Rough Country lift, along with their Performance Steering Stabilizer and had it aligned, only to find that the Death Wobble was from 45 on up. There was no powering out of it. So what I ended up doing was buying new tires. It fixed every wobble issue I had. I don't feel any wobble from 0 - 85+ now. I don't understand why, but those old tires were causing an awful wobble.

These are just my thoughts and opinions from what I've dealt with. And x2 on the hijacked thread.

My Old Man Emu 2.5" lift drives better that stock...about the same mpg. Tires and rims do play a big role.. I'm coming from a stiff Rubicon stock suspension though
