Manual transmission fluid change

Howdy, did a search and didnt come up with anything on this topic
Have a 2003 X model wrangler 5 speed wanting to change out the fluid.
looks like the drain is on the bottom and the fill is on the drivers side.

Try this.

Jeep NV3550 Transmission & NP231 Transfer Case Service

I have the same year as you do. When i went to fill it back up i took the shift boot and cover off so i could see the trans. used a few feet of plastic tube one end going from inside the jeep and the other to the fill hole. Filled it from the inside of the jeep. Helps if you have a friend to keep the tube from coming out of the trans and to let you know when its full. Didnt want to spend the money on a bottle pump to fill it. Only cost me a buck or two from the parts store for the plastic tube.

be sure to take out the fill plug before the drain plug-just in case.

Hardest part was finding a place that sold the 17mm allen bit socket. Found it at Autozone
easiest thing was draining and then pumping in new fluid.

What are you confused about?

Pretty cut and dry...
Remove Fill plug (do this first ...it's not cool to find out the fill plug doesn't come out after you drained the trans fluid. And then you're stuck without a vehicle.)

Set drain pan under.
Remove drain plug.
Clean drain plug off and reinstall it.
Fill trans with fluid.
Put fill plug back in. Done.

Not much more than changing your oil.

Yeah that website shows two different trannys that jeep used. My Haynes manual didnt show mine at all it showed how to change on the AX-15 so I was confused on plug locations with the photos in it.

That is why I liked that site, once I saw the photos and looked under my jeep everything was crystal clear. Haynes manual not sure if its even a TJ I think its out of date even though it goes through 2003.

When I did mine it took a A 14mm allen key (for the fill plug) and a 17 mm allen key(for the drain). It also only took 2 quarts of Royal Purple, and it did shift much smoother. I got a bottle pump from Auto Zoo and pumped it in from the ground, very easy.
