I just installed a slip yoke eliminator kit on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler X. Before installing the sye I installed a T-case drop kit but this didn’t solve the vibration from my 4” lift so I installed the sye. The sye almost eliminated the vibration but now when I hit the gas pretty hard no matter what speed I’m now hearing a growl and I’m not sure if its from the sye, rear-end or driveshaft? Does anyone know why I’m getting this growl and where it’s coming from? It sort of sounds like the vibration noise I had before installing the sye but not as bad and not all the time. Can this be fixed or is it just the nature of the best? Can someone give me a clue to what’s going on? I hate noises like this.

I'd start by puttin the jeep up on jack stands and spin everything and make sure there's not any binding in any of the u-joints. if nothing is found then start it up and put it in gear on the jack stands and see if you can hear/see anything happening.

Do you think this noise could be caused by not having the rear-end yoke pointed directly at the out-put shaft of the T-case? I have adjustable lower controll arms and I have them adjusted as far as they will go to get the yoke pointed at the T-case but it still looks like it needs to go more. To get more tilt I will need to buy the upper adjustable control arms but I don't want to buy them if its not going to help. What do you think? |

Then that right there is your whine/growl. Upper adjustable arms should fix it. You want the pinon to point right at the tcase yoke 0 to minus 3 degrees low.

What about the front-end, does the front-end require the yoke to be pointed at the T-case? I have not installed the front adjustable controll arms yet but plan to later. Is this something that needs done now to make it all work with no grunts or growls? Thanks for all the info.

You don't need to since the front driveshaft is almost double length of the rear. But if you can adjust them then why not. Point them both the same way. At or just below the yoke.

Man this is weird! Im having the exact same problem.Just replace my 2.5" OMe with a Re superflex (8 adjustable control arms) and got an advance adapters SYE and tom wood cv shaft.I test rode the jeep after the lift and SYE but didnt notice anything until i hit 60 MPH on the highway.A pretty loud growl that IVe never heard before.I adjusted the upper arms according to the RE instructions, and had both pinions in line with the driveshaft.I readjusted the rear uppers after a call to TOm wood, who suggested I set the rear pinion 2-3 deg below the driveshaft to allow for torque pulling up on the pinion.i just came back from a 70MPH test ride.It seems better, but I still hear way more noise than before.IM beginning to think it might be just my MTR,s sitting alot further away from my fender flares allowing the noise to be amplified? I might pull the front shaft out for a test drive to see if its altered angle has any thing to do with it...

Willysmb, let me know if you get this figured out. I do think that Tom Wood is on to something regarding the torque because that's when mine makes the growl when I'm pressing on the gas pedal or under torque if you will.
