All right I know yall can help me on this one.
My baby was in an accident on sat night some old lady hit us head on. No body damage though she hit the drivers side front tire. pushing the axle back several inches. The insurance adjuster says I need a new axle, lower control arm and upper control arm and other various things. they did not even put the jeep on the lift or measure the frame and the transmission is now leaking.

well here is the real problem I am having, the insurance company wants to give me a used front axle with around 50K miles. I know as well as many of you that this is really a gamble on how some one took care of it. (the one in particular they are trying to give me is from a jp with fire damage. metal and heat mixed with water does not sound like a good mix to me)

Sorry for the long wind- here is the question where can I get a NEW dana 30 W/ 3.75 gears, or an aftermarket front axle? I called the local dealership and they told me the dana 30 for an 03 tj has been discontinued, so please help.

They only gave me 1800 for the front axle so I am trying to find one within a couple 100 dollars of that amount.

I don't have a line on a dana for you, but if you are doing the work yourself, I have a pair of front upper and a pair of front lower stock control arms that you can have for the price of shipping if you want them.

Damn man too bad you aren't closer to PHX. I know a guy that is selling a D30 and a D35 $200 for the pair.

Best place to look would be Craigslist in your area.

just run to the wrecking yard and find one out of an XJ with out the 2 peice axle (its a little stronger then the tj D30)
you could get one for around $200 then use the extra money to build that axle up
you might beable to put gears and a arb locker and have someone install it all
for that price

As stated for 1800 you will have more than enough to get a new axle. Check local yards. Ebay, car-parts.com, craigslist, etc are all good places to start. Any 97 to 2005 should work from a TJ and any 93-99 XJ should work and the XJ is HP so a bit stronger.

Yep $1800 is way more than enough to find a really good D30 replacement, just check all the various Jeep oriented For Sale forums, Craigslist, eBay etc. and you'll find what you need.

BUT... that your tranny is also leaking may mean damage to the transfer case and/or transmission from the impact, from the force of the front axle pushing back on the front driveshaft that is bolted to the transfer case.

Before signing any settlement with the insurance company, look at the t-case and transmission and check for damage first.

still looking! have made a few phone calls and I guess I will continue trying. I switched shops on friday afternoon the other one was not working for me. So we will see if my normal shop can salvage the old axle or something.

my shop said it was not worth rebuilding. And that I should take the money and buy a rubi axle. But, my problem is that I currently have a d35 in the rear and a 3.73 axle ratio. So I would have to change that out as well. What would yall guys recomend. I am on a tight budget so I dont want to go crazy. And the jeep has never been wheeled in her life. Not that I dont want to, just dont have the money to fix broken things. And I remember every time I went out with my brother in his jeep it cost around $300. So my question is what would you do. and how much would it cost.
I dont plan on ever going bigger then 35's.

I wouldn't waste my time looking for a Rubicon front D44 axle. The way they're set up, they're not really that much stronger than your Dana 30 was in the areas that are most likely to give problems. I'd just find a good used Dana 30 axle out of a TJ. You could also use a Dana 30 out of a later model XJ Cherokee too which is actually preferable to the kind of Dana 30 used in a TJ as it has a stronger R&P setup. The XJ version would be a bolt-up job, no mods needed.

All a rubi front axle is a D44 carrier with D30 outers

you can get an XJ cherokee front high pinion (without the axle disconect)
for under $200 regear it put a locker and some alloys in it for probily under $1800 you can run 36's or do the 30 spline axle shafts and run 37's

If I get a xj axle which has 3.55 gearing can I just take the gears out of my tj, which are 3.75, and put them in the xj's. that would leave me more money to spend on other things. OR is their more to it then just moving the gears?

Well beside the fact that youd need an install kit to transfer gears, they are different kinds of D30's. The XJ axle is a high pinion dana 30 which means it uses reverse cut gears (stronger) rather than standard rotation gears like the TJ front axle does. You should be able to find an XJ axle w/ your gear ratio. Also, factory ratio is 3.73 not the 3.75 you believe you have. Jeep axles have been offered in a range of ratios but 3.75 isnt one. It can be hard to read tags after they become rusty or dirty. Either way, $1800 is plenty of money to build yourself a nice from D30. Im running an XJ D30 with 4.56 gears, and ARB locker, and alloy 30 spline shafts. Thats plenty strong to handle 36's and you couls probably build something like that with what ya got.

I know it is 3.73 but I started working 3rd shift from 1030pm to 8 am and I dont think very well when I get home. plus I have to wake up at stupid time to deal with this insurance junk, and my wife. It has been 12 days now and the cop still has not turned in the police report. What a headache. well thanks for your help I will probaly just stick with a tj dana 30 and let them pay for it. no since in making things complicated I just want my jeep back. They are wearing me down.

Dont let em get the best of you man. You could have a high pinion axle (better front drive shaft angle) with stronger ring and pinion gear, locker, and stronger alloy shafts if you can get the money you said the insurance will give you for the reapair. You will deff. be happy in the long run if you go that route.
