Newbies First Post...

This is my first Jeep, and I'm new to off roading, so, there will probably be alot of questions along the way.

To start, this is an '02 Wrangler Sport, 4.0, Automatic. The tires have been upgraded to 31's and everything else is stock.

This will be my daily driver and 4 wheeled for a week or 2 when on vacation. With my lack of off road experience, I intend to start slow with simple dirt and grave roads (those listed as 1 or 2 in the degree of difficulty). I will be driving the TJ from the San Francisco area to Moab, and Southern Utah, so, I'm curious as to the highway driving characteristics.

I'm planning to upgrade the suspension, and I'm leaning toward dpgoffroad's Deluxe Wrangler Kit...any thoughts or suggestions?

A friend at work who 4 wheels, suggested a Detroit Trutrack for the rear as a desirable add on...again, any thoughts or recommendations.

My initial thoughts were to do the suspension for my vacation this year, and, possibly the Trutrack next year.

Does anyone have any suggestions on other thoughts on my new toy?

Thanks for spending your time reading this long a$$ post.

Bill

i dont think you need a locker already and DONT DO IT IN THE REAR, if you feel you need a locker, (which you shouldn't if your keeping all four wheels on the ground) then get a aussie locker for the front, it is a lot less expensive, and better handling than a rear locker, and easier to install; of course IMO (in my opinion)

and if you have the money for the DPG deluxe sytem it is the best one out there!!, but it is very pricey, about twice as much as other lifts, and remember once you have the lifts you will need bigger tires, and then maybe even different gears, but if you stick w/ 32's w/ that lift it wil be great on stock gears,

the on highway charecteristics, let see, aerodynamics of a brick, downshift into wind, downshift going up hill, besides that not too bad, but hey it's a jeep enjoy the ride!!

and no need to apoligize here!!

btw Welcome to WF

(i assume u know about the jeep wave?)

Congrats on your new acquisition. I hope you'll love the jeep experience as much as we do. Lift kits are endless, so best to choose one that suits you. Personally, I'm getting the Rock Krawler Long Arm 4in kit. It's an extreme kit from what I've been told. Also check out Rubicon Express and Old Man Emu. They have a lot to choose from, and they seem to be popular around here.

Don't forget the wave, or I'll turn around and run you off the road! No, not really... Just wave at every jeep you see.
And once again, welcome to our strange family.

Thanks for the warm welcome...

I didn't know about the wave, but, now that I do, I'll be waving like crazy at all of you.

As far as pictures are concerned, I haven't been anywhere remarkable, or have I been in much dirt. I'll get pictures when I go to Utah in September...

Welcome to WF.

Don't underestimate your stock jeep, it can still go a lot of places off road.
