Default No more chrome!

It was a beautiful day on sunday so I decided to get rid of the last remaining pieces of chrome on the jeep, I hate chrome. Perfect day for some spray painting.

I like it a lot. I'm going to be taking all the chrome off my car (tube bumpers, light bezels, etc.) and be doing the same thing this weekend. Looks really good though.

Looking good....'like the no chrome look on some TJ's but can also get behind those with some as well....it all depends on how the whole package is put together....

Thanks, it looks so much better now.

Yeah I don't like the chrome much either. The first thing I did was paint the headlight bezels. Then I went for the wheels. I found some used grill inserts that were chrome and I painted those as well.

to those who've painted the bezels. Some of my "chrome" is peeling off. Should I remove all the chrome and then use a product like Krylon fusion? or is there a better way?

I would just hit it with some scotch brite and get all the loose flaky chrome off and then just spray over it. Don't use sandpaper the plastic is really soft and it will look like crap. I used krylon fusion gloss black. I wouldn't worry about getting all the chrome off just the loose stuff that's peeling.

Mrcarcrazy,

i would maybe use a filler or self etching primer first on the bezels 2 coats. That will help to fill any flaky spots or any pitted area, then blast it with a few coats of your paint.

Probably not a bad idea but that chrome is so thin you probably wouldn't even notice the peeled spots but I see what your saying...

Mine held up pretty good, I just sanded them and put about 4 coats of paint on them. It was a hot summer day so I let them bake in the sun between coats, so I think that helped and I used krylon fusion to, only flat black. I eventually want to do the parking lenses and reflectors.

Jeepczb09 - you really want to use a paint for plastic, it's only a couple bucks at any auto store, but yes it is gloss black.

Sorry, Joe is right there were only 3 screws on each one of mine, I should have made that clear.

Yes. I used rustoleum black hammered paint. It was fairly simple to do, light sand, primer and then a few coats of paint. It's held up really well. I touched up a little after the new tires were installed. I've gotten lot of compliments for them.

They look great, I would love to do that but I'm worried about how well they hold up. I don't want to have to re- spray them every time I get off the trail ya know.

adkjoe, i did this to my nissan hardbody. I used SEM flexable paint in Landau black, i applied about 3 coats and that truck is always stuck someplace, paint has never chipped and its almost 2 years later.
