My stock fender flares are pretty old and faded but i dont want to spend the money and buy new ones. I read in an earlier thread that someone spray painted their fender flares. I just want to know if this is a good idea or if i should just get new ones? Also if anyone has ever spray painted their's i'd like to know how that went over time and if its worth looking into.

after you spray with black should you give it a coat or two of clear coat?

I would. It will help protect it from the sun alittle.

screw the krylon ive done it twice the correct way and after wheeling the paint just starts chipping. it does look good while it lasts.

Ive had my best results with Dupli color truck bed coating. its slighlty textured and so far has stuck really well. I did have one spot chip from an impact but since its textured i re- sprayed and you cant tell.

Don't know if this stuff is any good or not. But you could try it.

Forever Black restores a dark, black, finish on sun-faded bumpers and body moldings. Forever Black permanently dyes black plastic, rubber and vinyl.

Tried the "forever black"...works great for a couple of weeks but thus again...fades....I then used the textured bed coating as previously listed and it is awesome!!! Good luck!

One more thing you can try is a heat gun, it's like spraying fresh black paint on them... like magic. It will last maybe a year depending on how long they sit in the sun. Hair dryers won't work, they don't get hot enough. Just don't focus the high heat on one spot too long, it'll blow a hole right through. I showed a friend this technique last week on his badly faded flares and he was amazed how well it worked. No need to remove the flares.

I've heard great things about Gatorback products that are specifically designed to restore the cladding on chevy avalanches. It now comes in convenient spray cans for about $23 a can. WD 40 will make them black again but it only lasts a couple weeks

If you have installed wider tires, you might also consider some Rubicon flares as replacements. If they are faded, you can paint them before install and they give you a little more cover than the stock ones.

here ya go, pics dont do it justice. its the same stuff i coated my flat fenders in. Ive had it chip once from a rock on the raod and with the light texture I just coated till it filled in and you cant tell. I wish had a before picture. they were beat up pretty bad. I would have done the heat gun like Jerry said but when i bought the jeep someone had already painted them.
