Painting the fender flares?

I heard from a buddy that using some black matte spray paint would be better than any cleaner you can get. Is this a good idea because mine are really faded and i wanna do something about it.

Go to the search button and type "painting flares". there are lots of threads on it. I'm actually going to do it this weekend, i'm tired of looking at the faded gray. Just clean them up, get all the dirt off etc...and spray them whatever color you want, krylon satin seems to be the top pick but flat black or any color for that matter would work. Just make sure you get the plastic spray paint.

There is another trick you can do with the rubber flares. Take a heat gun to them. You will have to play with the distance, but they will look like new. I think there is still a video on Youtube showing the process.

I used the heat gun for my jugs, it is much easier and IMHO would last longer/no chips in the flares... You can get a heat gun for like what 30$?

I have heat guns at work but I have been hesitant to go that route, I have heard once it cools it gets blotchy and spotty. Would the heat gun turn the gray flares black?

Rattle can is pretty darn simple. You just have to be careful taping it all off so you don't get overspray. Pulling the flares off to paint them isn't worth the effort to me.

Yes it will. Once cooled, just go back over it. I didn't have any blotches in my rear jugs... lol... on the Jeep, but I don't have those fenders, I have the Sahara so i'm not familiar with the fenders but I did hear that it might get blotchy but just go back over them a little more...

Using a heat gun on faded fender flares is pretty amazing to watch, it's like the heat gun was spraying out black paint instead of just super hot air. It's not a permanent fix but it lasts a long time.

If you decide to paint them, use only Krylon Fusion paint which remains flexible and is designed for use on the material our flares are made from.

Any good tool store will carry them, they look like a hair dryer. Sears too department, Home Depot, Lowes, Ajax Hardware, Harbor Freight Tools, your local mom & pop hardware store, etc. all have heat guns for sale.

I bought a heat gun for 10 bucks at harbor freight. Its like unlimited about of spray paint! It works great it also gets ride of small trail damage like scratches and stuff.
