I went to the drive in theatre recently and the girl I was with said why don't we just flip the seat around. After doing that my friends were riding around in the back like that.

I'm from PA.

I was wondering if anyone knows the legality of driving like this on the road.

I would try to find a way to reverse the seat belts.

No it is not illegal. They made a volvo like that for a few years. The wagon!!! It was fun riding in the very back watching the cars almost hit you in traffic lol.

Wasn't there a subaru that had seats in the back bed with grab handles back in the 80's?

My big old GM station wagons were like that, the kids fought for that seat.

My dad's old land Cruiser had sideways facing seats in the back, man that thing was a beat POS, but it was fun when it did run

There is also a mini van that the seats would turn 360 degrees. We had a pontiac station wagon that had a rear seat. The coolest thing ever when you're a kid. It's true everyone fought for that seat.

The Baja is the "new brat" They made for only 3-4 years. It was actually between an 05 Baja Turbo or my TJ that i picked up. Needless to say, I think i made the right choice!

we i was based in Africa (back in 89...)
we had an old toyota landcruiser 3 speed, the rear seat were actually 2 bench side way. it was cool. you could lift up the seat against thd back rest to have more cargo room. that truck could go everywhere.

Maybe you can find some Brat seats. I remember those truck/cars. Seen a couple lifted, looks sharp. A guy who worked for my dad had one and when you pushed a button on the console it rose 2 inches. All wheel drive.

I personally don't see any problem with it.
In most states, there isn't a backseat seatbelt requirement, unless they are children under a certain age or size.

Also look at it this way:
Lots of people have trucks.
People are allowed to ride in the bed of the trucks without penalty.
Most of the time, they are facing the rear.
And as stated above, look at the Subaru Brat.

I believe in florida now it's a law that noone rides in the back bed of a pick-up. I deff. know it's against the law for dogs without leashes. I'll have to look into it, im sure there is some type of loop hole that if you have seats back there with belts they'd allow it.

It's against the law in NY to ride in the bed of a pickup, too.

Unless I am mistaken it is also against the law to ride in the bed of a pickup in PA. I can't see any problem with turning the rear seat around in a Jeep though. Not terribly sure about the seatbelt requirement, but I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over anywhere in any vehicle for unbuckled rear passengers.

When did that happen? I grew up in Plantation, and rode to lunch in pickup beds all the time in high school (88-92).

While it isn't illegal, I wouldn't want someone riding in my jeep without a seatbelt.

The law went into effect about 2002. Manley because their was an incident were a guy had his dog in the bed, at a light the dog jumped out and attacked a pedestrian walking accross the street. The second was a crash in your neck of the woods. The truck hit a pole, three people were flown out of the bed. I believe they all servived, but were mangled up pretty bad.

In florida a law was just passed and Started june 30th about the seatbelts. Rear passengers are required to wear them. If an officer pulls you over and their not buckled up=$ 30.00 I wouldn't be surprised to see other laws starting to be enforced too= need $$$ for revenue, taxes have been cut, so we are the one's who they look to regenerate the cash flow.

Yeah, that coupled with their newly granted ability to pull people over specifically for not wearing their seatbelts should rake us some serious cash.

I used to live in upstate as well.
We always had people in the back of our pick-ups and NEVER had a problem with the Cops.

The really weird thing about it all is that while PA got stricter about seatbelts, they completely reversed the helmet law for motorcycles. So the state wants to make sure that you have a seatbelt on, but if you want to ride your bike without a helmet that's your call. Doesn't make any sense if the motivation is safety; doesn't make sense if the motivation is revenue from tickets. I guess it only makes sense if you are a legislator. Good thing it makes sense to them.

The insurance company lobbyists pushed for the repeal of the helmet laws. Think about it. If your in an accident on your bike, the helmet may save you, costing the insurance company $100,000s in medical payments. If you are killed which is more likely if not wearing a helmet. One time life payout and their done
