| Seat covers or waterproof existing seats?
It has occurred to me that, although I dont plan on it, likely the jeep will get wet with the top off at some point or another. So my question is this - do I treat the existing seats with waterproof coating (like for boots, I think its silicon spray?) or just buy some waterproof seat covers? What have you guys done? Pros and cons of either?

They make seat covers made out of the same stuff that wetsuits are made of. I want to get some. They are nice.

I have a set of neoprene seat covers that I got for m truck I had before the jeep. they run around $100 for a set of universal bucket seat covers or you can get the custom fit covers but they are a lot more expensive. they are really nice though because you can just take them out and wash them and you dont have to do anything to your seats.

Waterproofing the seats with spray doesn't work that well, it wears off quickly and you can never be sure they are 100% waterproof. Plus once the seat foam gets wet, it is all downhill. The neoprene covers works great.

That is true, as Ive discovered with boots - the silicon spray wears off, so would need to reapply periodically...

the covers will soak up a lot of moisture, and will fade horribly with the top down.. a little water on the seats never hurt a jeep..

As someone who wears a lot of neoprene... it doesn't dry instantly at all but it is designed to get wet. I went with some cruddy vinyl seat covers so at least I can just towel them off after a rain and not suffer from wet butt

my dog pee'd on my neoprene covers once. It actually worked like a dream. The cover soaked it up, And when i pulled off the cover to wash it, it never seeped through to the actually seat. Bone dry.

Neoprene is not water proof, you're probably better off with the vinyl as recommended above.

The best seat covers I've seen for fit and waterproofing are iggee's seat covers. They're decently tough, fit well, towel off when wet, and don't absorb water like neoprene. The downside is they're a little pricy. around $150-200 for a set.

In my experience neoprene seat covers are very warm in the summer. I have a set of Bestop seat covers which are very nice! The water won't soak through, but rather puddles up on the cover.....wipe it off and you're good!

I got the Smittybuilt neoprene black and red mostly to match my jeep. Not even full summer in Vegas yet and appears they produce as much moisture , see above ref. to "sweaty butt" , as they would repel IF it ever actually rained in Vegas. They do work to protect seats very nicely though.
