Smittybilt Soft top Review
So I have been looking for a soft top for my 2002 tj . Im in the ''dont have $400 for a bestop soft top group'' so i look into the cheap ones from ebay. find a $258 dllrs with shipping. so i decided i have to take the risk. many people said to me. if you buy cheap youll get bad quality.
So 2 days ago the package was finally at home. it was a Smittybilt soft top.
So I know it would not be the BEST quality soft top. but for $250 it looks GREAT. So if anybody is thinking in buying one of these because there is no money ... go ahead.
Love the tinted windows. when I get in the highways its no that loud .. so its not anoying. its just a good top for the price. Here some pics already installed ( wich i must say was very easy.)

I have had the same top for about a year now and it's still in great shape. Just take care of it and you should get a few years out of it at least. My rear window got slashed a few months back and I'm thinking of buying the same top again cause the price really is unbeatable and I'm not gonna pay 100 dollars for one window.

My jeep came with Smitty built soft top, I'm not sure how old it is, but the quality seems decent. Better than what I would expect considering the bad reviews SB gets around here. My only problem is the zipper in the back window is not great, but it was broken when i got the jeep so not sure what the PO did.
Long story short, I would consider buying another SB top if the besttop was out of my price range.
400 for a besttop? I thought they were closer to $800?

A friend of mine bought this same exact top off of Ebay about 4 months ago and it still looks brand new and he hasn't had any problems with it.

I recently bought this top for an '01 TJ. Most of the installation was a breeze until I got to zipping up all 3 removable windows. I don't remember having this much trouble with the factory top when it was new. Any advice on getting a little stretch without busting zippers. All 3 only go to the 90 degree turns.

^^^ if you haven't yet, let it sit out in the sun (hot/warm) for a couple hours and try again. it just might need to loosen up a bit.

yes, the sun will help. It will stretch the soft top.

I also have a new Smittybilt soft top. It was a PITA to install when right out of the box until I let it sit in the sun. Now after a few weeks of letting it sit on the Jeep I have no issues putting it up or down and the windows are no problems at all. I also love the tinted windows. I bought the upper door skins for my half doors. Again, the sun is your friend with the install.

So i just got done installing my smittybuilt top. Same one as pictured... however, I have to say... getting the half windows onto the factory frames is a stunt. Left them sitting by the fire for the better part of an hour, snapped one shoe horn in half. Ended up using a crowbar to get the corners on. Top looks fantastic for 250 but man... those windows!

I've had my Smittybilt soft top for several months now and it still looks and works great! Best $250 I've spent on my Jeep yet!

Mine just came in today. I'm sure the old one is OE. All the stitching has rot and is fraying. A while back I blew out the back zipper. So if my new SB looks as good as WranglerTX's with no major fitment issues I'll be happy.

I am not sure if SB even has a black diamond but I have heard, at least on Besttop Softtops, the black diamond is better.

No, it's not tearing. It looks even and right laying on the back. When I move it to the front and tighten it down.... . I took it back off tonight, adjusted the screws in the header and it made no difference. The holes in the plastic reinforcement strip are elongated side to side, so there's little to no adjustment front to back without going outside the plastic.
This is what I'm thinking, isn't only 45degrees in the garage and it looks like it needs to be pulled side to side from center out.

If all of the stitching and everything is in place and it's just not fitting snug at the windshield I'd see if you could claim it under warranty as a manufacturers defect? I know a lot of folks bad mouth Smittybilt, but I've heard some good things about their warranties...
