I have an 01 2.5L 4cyl engine. I am looking to replace the spark plugs and ignition wires. Considering aftermarket products. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks!

The 4.0L engine I'm more familiar with had gone to a distributorless design by 2001. Does your 2.5L engine have a distributor as I suspect it does? If so, I'd go strictly for the OE ignition wiring, aftmarket ignition wiring sets just have too many potential problems... especially the so-called "low resistance" or "performance" ignition wiring sets.

On the plug itself, I'd go for a single-tipped platinum like the Autolite AP985... assuming still that your engine has a conventional distributor as I think it does. A platinum plug like that will outlast a conventional plug by around 3X. And if you do have a distributor, go with a premium distributor cap and rotor that uses brass contacts. Cheap distributor caps and rotors only use aluminum for their contacts which dosn't last nearly as long. :)

I bought the autolite plugs back in December and have had problems with misfires. Just go with Champion plugs; they seem to be the only ones that don't trip the check engine light.

What engine are you running, is it older and has a distributor or is it a newer distributorless model? Exactly which model Autolite plug did you install?

If you have a newer distributorless 4.0L engine, understand that it is far fussier about having the exact right model spark plug installed than older engines with distributors are. For example, installing a single-tipped platinum plug like the Autolite AP985 will definitely cause problems in a newer distributorless engine.

As Jerry said, which plug did you buy?

For the I-6 with no distributor you want the dual platinum tipped autolites APP985.

Not sure what the 2.4 takes or what jeep you have, but the wrong type of plug is not an "upgrade". Get the right one for your application.

I've been using the APP985's in my 06 4.0L with excellent results for a year now.

I have a 98 wrangler 2.5L. What would be the best wires/distributor cap & rotor for my rig. I have located the plugs from the sticker under the hood. It calls for the Champion pn# RC12LYC, but I have not yet located them in any local autoparts store.

actually allied signal bought honeywell back around 2000 and changed there name to honeywell. honeywell had the better customer service reputation. i know they suck because i've worked for them for 13 and a half years. they looove to cut corners anywhere they can.

if it helps any, i have a 2.5L '97 and put in new plugs and wire this summer when i had some arching going on on the old stock wires. went with champion double platinum #7304 then bought the regular $15 wires from napa. used dielectric grease on all the fittings/connecections. haven't really had tooo much of a problem starting it now. although i think my fuel pump or filter or something in the regulator may be leaking. since it doesn't want to start w/o some gas when cold.

Yes. That "bar" is a rail system that contains a coil packs (3 total) and acts as the plug wires of days of yore.

Pull the bolt near the firewall that holds the coil pack/rail in place and remove the individual plug connectors. Before you remove the plugs themselves, I recommend blowing out each location with some compressed air so when you install the new ones, you don't accidentally send any foreign objects into the cyclider with the new plugs.
