| Suggestions for finding replacement engine?
I have an '04 Wrangler with 2.4L engine. Long story short a rod slipped and the engine is totally junk. The car has barely any miles on it and everything else is fine so I'm going to just replace the engine. Any suggestions on a good place to order a new /refurbished (with warranty) engine from? I've been checking out some places but can't seem to find the 2.4L for an '04 anywhere. The garage I took it to quoted me over $5k for them to order and put it in, but I have a neighbor who will put it in for me for free, I just have to order it.

Hell try to find a 4.0 if you are throwing in a new engine!

4.0 swap is fairly simple and is absolutely worth it.

I guess I didn't even think about that. Any chance you guys could link me to a guide or something about it, find out what all I need to get it done. And I'm still wondering if you have any suggestions about a reliable place to order one form.

For used engines try: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
5k is insane, you could do a v8 swap for that much.. Hell go buy another jeep for 5k.

That is really an awesome deal! Well, I was about to visit an on-line shop for a replacement engine block. Although, I may just visit some local dealers instead.

Since this post was written a week and a half ago, it's probably too late to suggest, but I'm gonna do it any way......Even though the jeep (not car) is an 04', I would be on the phone with Chrysler/Jeep and be bitchin up a storm that the Jeep has very few miles on it, and I'm having to replace an engine. Even though it may have been your own fault, (not checking oil, replacing oil)I'd still be on the phone with them, seeing what or if they can do something for you. You just never know what might transpire from a phone call to "headquarters". Probably won't do any good, but at least TRY. I would. Good luck to you though!!

$2900 is a good deal? Wow. I was quoted $1950 out the door (turn key) for a rebuilt 4.0 with a 3 year warranty for my TJ, but I may have found a 98 model engine with 31K on it for $750, then I'll do the labor myself and be done for under a grand. I AM talking about a 4.0, is yours a 4.0?

my 2.5 threw a rod, had to replace it, went through the dealer. cost me around 4k. i asked about converting to 4.0 and they told me it would be cheaper to buy a used jeep with a 4.0 then to convert my 2.5. had to do with the buying of the computer and electronics.
