on my TJ the sway bar bushings are that tight that the sway bar stays where it is. you could also turn the sway bar and put the sway bar on top of the upper spring perch.
Use nylon zip-ties to hold the antiswaybar up out of the way when you're disconnected. Look on your upper spring coil mounts and you'll find a small opening where it is welded to the frame you can pass the zip-tie through. Don't just push it up and expect it to stay put like Nicolas-Eric does, that's an accident waiting to happen. And that quick disco idea you posted about works fine.
I have been runnin that on my TJ and so far so good. I got the parts at lowes and the clevis pin is hardened. I will take some pics and post em if ya like. Once i get lifted i will get real discos!
i went ahead and stoped at home depot on my way home yesterday, i bought the clevis pins, some hardened washers and some cotter pins, ill snap a pic and post it in a second
They work fine and are cheap but they will wear out with a lot of highway use and will start to clank on turns etc. Plan to eventually buy some real discos in the end.
correct, grade 8 washers and 5/32 hitch pin i think
i've been running this set up for about two months, haven't had an issues with handling. although they hitch pins aren't very tough. i noticed one snapped off after a day on dirt roads...got it fixed for another $4.
ya lost the clevis and washers.. ah well... i dunno about HD though i'd call them before making the trip, the one here doesn't carry 7/16 clevis pinss....
well I would be going to the same home depot as mudslinger did, we live near each other and that's where he got them so they must have them, thanks for the heads up though dukes.
Went to lowes last night, got
2-clevis pins 7/16" x 2 1/2"
4- grade 8 hardened 7/16" washers
2- hitch pins .125 x 1 15/16" (perfect fit by the way, nice and tight)
I also kept the 2 large washers that were on with factory bolts and used those as well to make a nice tight fit with absolutely no play at all.
Sorry for pic quality it was getting dark and all I had was my cell phone.
I would also recommend getting an extra set to keep in the glove box so if one fails you don't get sea sick on the way home. It cost me a total of $6.19
Yea the .125 x 1 5/16" hitch pin fits great, it's very tight and sturdy, I tried every size they had at lowes and these are the perfect fit for the 2.5" x 7/16" clevis pins. They also had the grade 8 7/16" washers, I was surprised....lowes is so much better than HD.
Mudslinger did you re-use the large washer that was on there with the stock bolts? I did and it makes a perfect fit with the 3 washers, there's no play what so ever. The pin fits perfect in the second hole from the end.
yes i did re-use that large washer, and i did get a snug fit aswell, she required a little wiggle...
