Hello all, newbie here.
I have a 2004 TJ and want to get some new tires.
Looking at the wheel well it looks as if I can go a bit bigger.
I don't really need any special tread since most of my four wheeling is at the beach.
What is the biggest size I can get on a TJ Wrangler (stock/no lift) with no rubbing?
I don't know what the style of rim that I have is called so here is a pic.

you can definitly fit 31's under with no problem, you may even be able to fit 32's depending on the amount of flex you want, if you're just going on the beaches and on sand then you will probabaly be able to get 32X11.50, and if you find you are rubbing you can get a 1.25" body lift for about $100
you will also have to tighten some stops or something so it doesnt rub at full lock, im sure someone on ehre knows what i mean and has pictures and will chime in


also idk how muhc you know about beach wheeling but if you dont know already air down your tires to about 10 psi ti get a bigger footprint and not dig into the sand

as for what kind of tire i suggest the BFG A/T, but i dont know how it does on the sand

I think I'll go with the 31's.
I've never really had to air my tires down at the beach....not yet anyway but there were some "iffy" times when it would have helped..

I posted on here a few times a couple of years ago but I forgot my user name. Back then I had the "Death Wobble" and you guys/gals got it right. The mechanic at the Jeep dealership had never even heard of it and I even had him checking out this site to learn about it. He replaced the front shocks, the steering stabilizer and then finally the trac bar which turned about to be the culprit like many on here said. He was like "wow they were right"

debruins is right, you should go with a 31" tire for sure. I would highly recommend the A/T as he mentioned. They wear very well and do great on road but can handle it if you ever get the urge to do a little wheeling. Also, I really think you'll find that next time you go to the beach and air down as mentioned before, you'll see a world of difference. It may seem fine now but you dont want get stuck and be wishing you had just took a few minutes to remove some air pressure. But the 31 will fit your stock rims well and provide a little more clearence as well as make it look a little better, especially if you get those A/T's.

i would install 31s with no lift.

if you don´t go wheeling and you drive only on the road and on the beach you don´t need longer springs with 2" spacers.

Dont think you are limited to "31's" look at the metric size 265-75r15 it is the same as a 31-10.50 and will open up alot of all terrain style tires that are availible. My 97 had these when I bought it used years ago and I still have them mounted as spares they are Starfire AT's. They did a real good job for what they are and wear like iron.



The starfire website is acting funny right now but I was very happy with these, I just had to go bigger and tougher for my wheeling needs. Oh and $64 per tire in that size 2 years ago.

there arnt too many tires in the 265/75/15 size....plus 265's are about a 32x10.5, not a 31...

still its not rocekt science, so clos is good enough in this case and if he find somehting he wants that is that size then he shoudl jsut buy 'em!

Im buying a Jeep next week and it needs new tires. It is all stock. It has the Sahara wheel upgrade and currently has 31/9.50/15 on it. Im want to buy the INTERCO Super Swamper LTB tire in 31/11.5/15. Its the smallest size they have. Im planning on testing out this stockers full articulation potential. Will i have problems with rubbing? INTERCO also makes a Super Swamper TSL tire that is 31/10.5/15. Will that rub? I would rather have the LTB series tire as it is more aggressive as well as being cheaper. A little rub at full twist may be bearable as it shouldnt see that to often. Thanks.

I hope its not going to be your daily driver, as Interco has yet to master making a ROUND tire.

you'll love those tires. the last 3 sets of tires i have bought have been bfg at's.
also no one i know who has those wishes they woulda bought something else.

It will be a daily driver. About 60mi a day. If Interco is crap. What is a good tire for that price that is as aggressive? And can I go 31/11.5/15 on my stock jeep with little to no rub?

What they said about Interco is correct.
No trying to change your mind, but at 60 miles a day, you might want to reconsider a super aggresive tire, as mentioned earlier in this thread, the bfg A/T's look really good, and wear very well on the road.
At 60 miles a day, you will burn through a super aggresive mud tire really quick. If you do want more aggressive of a tire, Mickey Thompson MTZ and bfg mud terrains, if rotated and maintained properly, they wear well, and aren't to bad on the ears either, not real sure about the price ranges though. just my $.02

you can go bigger than 31's with the right spacers. BUT, its not factory recommended. If you are worried about that, stick with 31's.....if you wanna go bigger either get a cheap Budget Boost and put some 33's on there or get the right spacers and go with 33's.
