TJ Noob Question - soft top care and rust

I just purchased a very nice 97 TJ Sport 5 spd (my first Wrangler) with low miles and want to do some TLC while I am waiting for the title. It has the original soft top and half doors and they are in great shape. What is the best stuff for cleaning and preserving the fabric and plastic windows. Also i may try attacking the rust underneath. I have a set of Race Ramps that will help with this. Are there any good references on the forum regarding the best rust remediation procedures? I have some POR-15 but will need more. Any rust treatment products that are locally available in stores? I will also do some fluid changes.

You do realize you posted in the JK section, for the questions your asking it doesn't matter but just an FYI in case you wanted more feedback from the TJ section.

There are several softop protection products from numerous places, like Quadratec, 4wheelparts, etc. Just do a search on what they have. Por-15 is great stuff, just get more like you said. Congrats on your first Jeep.

yep... try that ** Search ** button up there and you should find some thread about pretty much anything you want.

Thanks. I found some rust fix info. and only one post on soft top care that mentioned various 303 products. I may try that. I will go with the Por-15 for the rust.

Come on now...you know better than that.

We don't mind seeing the same questions asked multiple times. We're "new owner friendly" and gosh darnit, that's why people like us.

I just treated my top today for the first time. I couldn't find any 303 at autozone, so I used the only product they had "blue magic convertible top cleaner". It says it cleans and conditions. Yesterday while washing it, I sprayed concentrated soap on, scrubbed w/ the brush, then rinsed. Today I used the product. I guess it went ok, seeing as this was my first time ever doing this. Anyhow, my top is back to being blacker than black, and oddly, it seems as though lowering and raising the top is now easier. Dunno if the cleaner had anything to do with that.
