| TJ Tub interchangeability?
Just toying with swaping my tub for a newer/different one to get rid of the rust problem that is starting to develop on mine. so i was wondering, did jeep make any changes to the tub design and when? I was just planning on buying a bare tub and swaping all my stuff into it (cheaper than buying a newer/different jeep).
thanks.

i think you're limited to tj tub. yj and cj were interchangeable. anything can be done, its just a matter of how willing you are to make it work
but, a guy named cherokee can help you out, he put a yj tub on a tj frame.

As stated the TJ is a fit for the TJ. The YJ is not a direct bolt on. Only (2) body mounts lined up. I had to fab the rest. As well, the YJ fenders do not sit directly over the TJ shock perch in front. Some inner fender mod is necessary there as well. I had to build a new firewall for the MC and the steering column. Basically my junk is a bunch of nuts, bolts, and welds!! However..it can be done!

TJ Tubs will bolt right on to any frame, but there are some difference in how stuff mounts between the tubs. Most noteably would be the heater setup. They changed the firewall I believe in 2000 so that the heater setup fits differently and they don't line up correctly. As far as I know all of the rest of the dash and seats will fit. The cage is also the same.

Sorry for the confusion, i only would replace my tub with another tj tub. So for my jeep (its a 99) the newest tub that i can get and re use all of my seats and dash and stuff is a 99 because they changed the firewall in 00 (just making sure im 100% clear on this).

I'll dig my shit out and let you know later tonight exactly what year the swap was.

side note: i hate living in the rust belt. | Yeah it was 2000 when they made the switch in the firewall in regards to the AC/Heat setup. The swaps we did was a 2000 into an 02 tub and a 97 into a 98 tub. So for yours you are going to want to look for a 97, 98, or 99.
