TJ vibration!! NEED HELP ASAP
I have a 2000 tj, 5 speed, 4.0. I recently put 31's with a 2 inch budget boost. Well, I took off after doin the budget boost and theres a clunking noise along with excessive movement of my shifter and under acceleration I have some vibration. Now, im new to the whole Jeep craze so I have no idea even where to start. People keep saying oh thats normal for a wranger. Well im sorry but before I put the budget boost on it rode like it was brand new. Has anyone had this issue? Surely with just lifting it 2 inches it wouldnt make the drive shaft angle too steep would it causing binding in the u-joints? PLEASE someone help. Thanks

Check your u-joints.
Edit: If they were worn at all, the lift would amplify it. Just a suggestion.

Same set up as me but lucky to not have any vibes. no other mods were done but I heard there are some you may or may not have to do. I think the track bar is one of them not sure. Like I said, I got lucky. I'm sure someone will chime in..
Good luck.

2" can mess with DS angles, despite the regular comments to the contrary Heck, 0" of lift and a slight bit of preload on my old AirLift bags would knock things out of whack. I'd start by looking at that, and then check everything else out for wear - trans mount, in particular.
I know that some folks can get away with it, but I think that it should be standard practice to do a SYE with ANY suspension change, since it should have been there from the factory in the first place. You're gonna end up getting one eventually, why not save the grief of chasing vibrations and do it right from the outset?

I think your problem is you're going faster than your jeep can handle hahaha. 75+ in my jeep scares the crap outta me.

well i had similar problems chased them forever it seemed.. first off found out once lifted that the slipjoint section of the front driveline was not good anymore.. how that happened is beyond me.. so i got that fixed and vibe went away.. try by putting it in 4x4 and see if it stops. thats how i got started.. i have a diff. vibe now but it must be in my rear end.. u can expect some vibe out of a jeep with a lift and such.. but not much...

And if I'm not mistaken, it reduces the angle of the drive shaft, ultimately reducing vibrations caused by the harder angle

This is exactly why I'm weary of getting a 2" BB kit. I wish the outcome of the budget boost were much more definitive; some people have no problems and others do have problems!

Find a thread here in the TJ Forum called "Barbie's Buildup". Then look at posts number 95 through 97.
The SYE allows a less steep driveshaft angle. Combine this with an aftermarket double cardan joint rear driveshaft such as the #1310 from Tom Wood.
Makes the driveshaft vibes go away.
Notice how short your rear driveshaft is? A little bit of lift on your TJ makes it be really steep with sharp angled joints really quick.

With 2" there is no reason you need sye. Do you have a motor mount? If anything I would start with the ujoint in the shaft and if replacing it doesn't help I'd drop a tcase lowering kit on it.

On the stock OEM rear driveshaft, before you put the SYE in, the stock forward universal joint is situated several inches to the rear of the transfer case, meaning a shorter distance and steeper angle between the forward u-joint and the rearward u-joint. After the SYE is in place, the forward u-joint is right up at the transfer case, meaning a longer distance and shallower angle between the front and rear u-joints. I hope I said that correctly and clearly.

I just had a u joint problem on my girls 06. It got so bad that it made you think that something in the steering was bad. I regularly maintain the Jeep and while it had a "shake" before that I said I would wait till spring to fix the problem. It got so bad so fast that I just had to take a second look. The joint at the front diff was going bad for awhile I'm assuming and with all the snow and ice it must have just took too much stress and showed its self finally. Took all vibration and issues right away. TJ's are very sensitive due to the steering set up and rigid style as it is. A simple problem can seem bigger than it is. Check that driveline, sounds like its your issue.

Is the shifter still shaking? A shifter that moves side-to-side during acceleration/deacceleration is often caused by a broken motor mount.

not my shifter... i can see it being the driveline... its like a rotating vibration that changes speeds depending on how fast im going

Speed sensitive vibrations are nearly always tire/wheel related.

I installed a BB today and now I have a faint vibration that starts at 30 mph and stops at 45, but after that it runs out smooth as silk up to 70 mph and it doesn't do it when de-accelarating which makes me think that when I accelarate there is something going on, so I checked the ujoints, all are tight. I think the pressure against the slip yoke puts the ujoint in a bind causeing the vibration. Could this be it ? Anyway I dont like the way it looks so I am going to be lowering the rear by an inch to level it out maybe it will disappear.
