This is more of an informative post just to show what is available out there. I found out about the Viking tops a few weeks ago but heard that they were discontinued and was told that there were others like it, the California Top. Which by the way is highly over priced, and seem to do the exact same thing.

Anyway Viking Tops are available at Quadratec, I would sugest to buy them directly from vikingoffroad.com to give them more of the profit but are still shown as sold out on there site for the sailcloth versions.

If you don't know what a viking top is I added a few pics and will give a short description. They are especially good for the jeeper that only has a hardtop as the soft top requires no mounting hardware, it uses the sports bar to support the top, like the Bestop Trektop. Though it has the special ability to convert into a full safari top and has a storage pocket for the side and back window in the top to store them out of the way. The whole thing looks easier to take down and put up than the OEM top. I hate scraping the skin of my knuckles when putting up my top. The only bad thing I see is that the kit doesn't come with the door surrounds, tailgate bar, and header channel, as the Trektop does.

That's a good top, I'd like one of those myself.

But the very LAST top manufacturer I would buy anything from is California Tops. In my personal opinion, they have had for many years now... by far... the worst reputation of any Jeep vendor out there for post-sales support. If anything goes wrong, Tim, the owner of California Tops is not likely to make you happy at all.

FWIW, I've been happy with my Viking Top. I bought one of the first ones and it has held up great.

Viking has an ebay store. It that had the best price I could find.

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to go from completely topless to fully enclosed again? I can't imagine it would be easier that the factory soft top with all the adjusting straps needed, but I love the way these tops look.

I never take off the safari portion of the top. Going from there is much easier the regular top. Just zip in three windows and retension the straps and your done.

Yea, I figured that much. I just really like going without any roof at all.

We get to much sun here to go topless in the summer. The shade is an important part of making it through the day.

I would say going from topless to fully enclosed is no more time than closing the OEM top.

I made the mistake of driving out to the desert in the cool of the early morning with no top on, it was great. Then the sun came out and it was frigging brutal with temps over 100. Only a the dumbest/gayest looking pink & green giant beach towel someone loaned me duct taped into place as a bikini top saved my ass that day.

I watched a video before of people converting it from a full top to safari and back but can't find it now. Once my wife gives the go ahead I will be replacing my warn out top and badly scratched up windows with this top.

Hah! I did the same thing out Vegas last summer. I had to bungee my flannel shirt to cover the top.

Going from no top to a fully enclosed Viking can take up to 30 minutes with one person. It basically all depends on how cooperative your windshield channel is. Sometimes mine slips right in and stays there and other times it pops out under tension.

With the top in the full bikini it only takes about 5 minutes in FULL SUN. Indoors or in the cold it can take a long time because the matierial doesn't stretch.

It must be a coordination issue. Its never taken me that long nor have I had trouble with the top/wind shield channel. (by myself)

Your top may be different than mine. With mine you have to cram the seem of the top into the windshield channel and hope it stays. They may have improved that in the later versions. (I hope they did)
