5w-20 too thin for NM summer heat?

I've put about 2,500 miles on my 2010 JKU since purchase a couple months ago and decided to change the oil since I don't know when/if the dealer had changed it (I bought it with 20,000 miles). I don't know what weight was put in it for the last oil change, but I decided to go with the manufacture recommended 5w-20. I went with Valvoline full synthetic and a Wix oil and air filters. Then I started thinking about it (of course, after the fact)...should I have went with a heavier wt for the summer? I was just curious what you guys (the locals) are running and if you change wts for the different seasons. Any advice would be appreciated...thanks!

Disclaimer: I am not trying to start an "oil war" (seems like every post I read on oil here someone jumps in and gives the OP crap for "another oil thread" or starting "another oil war" ). I am posting this in the New Mexico section to get specific, local, feedback due to the heat in NM.

go with manf recommendations. Period. All (or all I know of) new cars are set to run on 5-20. Now my 05 LJ has 104K and I run High mileage oil 10-40 with a can of Restore once in awhile. It works for me.
Edit some exotics and such recommend synthetic, but don't believe Jeep is one of those. I have run synthetic in vehicles in the past and really did not see an improvement to justify the added expense over dino.

You should be fine with the 5W-20 or 30 as long as you're not running extremely long oil change intervals in that hot environment. If you want peace of mind, 5W-30 won't hurt your engine, but might rob you of 1 mpg in fuel efficiency at worst. How many miles on your rig right now? The higher the mileage the looser the tolerances as a general rule of thumb....and therefore you can get away with running heavier weight oils without as much power loss due to internal friction.

My 2012 calls for 5W-30. the 2013 and 2014 call for 5W-20.

i have a 2010 JK with almost 40,000 miles on it. live in florida and run 10w30 in it. have been for about 15,000 miles. i have a slight tick in the engine... it's a bandaid i know... but it keeps it a bit quieter, and for as much wheeling as i do...

i think it's running better with the heavier weight oil in it...
