if anyone is interested in going to the Pureco monday, I will be meeting at the chillies on southern and Unser at 10 am, heading out to the air down spot and the spending a couple hrs out there. followed by lunch at Turtle Mountain and then a brewery tour back to abq.

and will be on CH 13

Alright guys I replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses and she won't pull any coolant from the reservoir when it needs it. I'm also scared to refill the radiator and blow it if it's not pushing the extra back into the reservoir. Any ideas what it could be?

It has to get hot enough to open the thermostat valve before it will drop the water level and draw. You cannot overfill the radiator because it just blows out into the reservoir.

pull the cap, and let it run till it gets warmened up then the water level will drop and add coolant

See when it does get hot it won't pull or backfill the reservoir. It just keeps what's in the block and radiator. That's why my last radiator blew it had too much pressure.

when it gets hot, can you see the water moving in the radiator with the cap off?
does it continue to get hot to the point of entering the red mark on the gauge?

when it is hot, with the cap off, if you rev the engine does it spit coolant out of the top of the radiator?

I can see the coolant moving and it looks like it's all working fine. Just when it needs coolant it won't pull any from the reservoir I have to manually put it in the radiator. I'm scared if I put too much it'll blow the radiator for some reason it's not kicking the extra back to the reservoir.

if you have to keep adding coolant then its not full enough to kick it back.

you may have a bad radiator cap or the line from the top of the cap to the reservoir may be plugged.

it does not just "DRAW fluid" into the radiator from the reservoir. it takes a heating cooling/ condensation cycles for it move. when it is hot, it is under pressure and cannot draw fluid into the radiator. when it cools, IF it creates a vacuum when it does the cooling, then it may draw the fluid in.

­­The radiator cap actually increases the boiling point of your coolant by about 45 F (25 C). How does this simple cap do this? The same way a pressure cooker increases the boiling temperature of water. The cap is actually a pressure release valve, and on cars it is usually set to 15 psi. The boiling point of water increases when the water is placed under pressure.
When the fluid in the cooling system heats up, it expands, causing the pressure to build up. The cap is the only place where this pressure can escape, so the setting of the spring on the cap determines the maximum pressure in the cooling system. When the pressure reaches 15 psi, the pressure pushes the valve open, allowing coolant to escape from the cooling system. This coolant flows through the overflow tube into the bottom of the overflow tank. This arrangement keeps air out of the system. When the radiator cools back down, a vacuum is created in the cooling system that pulls open another spring loaded valve, sucking water back in from the bottom of the overflow tank to replace the water that was expelled.

I'll check out the radiator cap it might be bad that's one thing I didn't replace.
