Bearing noise from drivetrain

I recently purchased a used 99 jeep wrangler sport 5spd/I6 from a relative. It has a noise that sounds like a bearing going bad. Not real loud but noticeable. The noise goes away when the clutch is depressed. It was towed from WashDC to NM and I was told the u-joint was removed before towing? Anyone know what this problem could be or recommend a reputable mechanic in Albq. to take it to?
