Building up CB Setup - Need suggestions

Hello all,
I just picked up a cheap radio shack 40 channel digital cb (4-5) watt unit. I just need an antenna setup, not sure what would work. I would like to side mount the antenna to the drivers side just opposite of the AM/FM antenna on the drivers side just in front of the door.
I wanted to get one of the Firestik II antenna's.
My question is: Mounting on the side of the Jeep with a 3 or 4 foot Firestik - does that sound like it will work? Is a longer antenna recommended?

Thanks a bunch,
-quarkdude

Go to right channel radio's website and look around for the TJ hood mounting bracket. If you get a good top loaded antenna 3' should be ok. If you add a quick disconnect its even better. I'll try and post a link for you.

Hood mount sounds good.

Here is the link to the hood mount, included in the price is the coax and I think it's a good deal. The Firestik Firefly is much lighter and performs just as well, I got the 3' with the quick disconnect and the height is perfect for me.

You want at least a foot or so above your roof. I went from a 4' to a 3' since I thought I would only use it on the trail which is indeed fine. But now I want to go bigger for more range. There's a ton of really great cb tech reads in the radio section of the forum. I'm running the Firestick II and love it but after a few long cross country trips I want a longer antenna for those trips. Cali twice this year, Co, and Abq to Cruces 3 times. Cb is fun on the road.
