I need a CB before the trip...and need help!
Is there a good local place to go to get one, or will I have better luck on line?
Any particular set up you guys would recommend?

Mesa CB or xtreme CB on the west side both are good, but we can install it so easy dont pay anyone to. The Cobra 75wx is a self containd cb nice for space saving. perfect for the trail. get it on amazon if you like that style and we can pick up the rest local or these guys have a grata deal going I just dont like their cable. love that mic and gate mount.

Just get it done right, or you can buy a handheld for about $100 that will work quite well. Or if you wanna just wait I can loan you my handheld for the trip. Go to this website and start reading up, it can really help make up your mind about what you would like to install. Think about it then call me, I'll PM you my number.

I got a Cobra handheld off Amazon for like $60 and it works well enough. I just strap it to the roll bar above the drivers window. Sometimes I think about a more permanent setup, but honestly CB's suck and I would rather put that time and money elsewhere for something I don't use that much.

Labor day is Monday Sept 2nd, the weekend trip is planned for Friday Aug 30th thru Monday Sept 2nd. 4 days in Colorado's San Juan region.

Prepare your self for a life changing Off-Road trip, please leave bad attitudes at home. This outing is family based and is for everyone especially the kids (large and small..) The trip will be based out of Ouray CO. most of the Jeep trail heads are very close or right in Ouray which makes it perfect location. Ouray has great places to eat and drink (mico-brew pubs), store's for your supply's etc.

Lodging, anyone attending can stay any where they like , camp etc. I have spoken to Twin Peaks Lodge in Ouray ( No affiliation to TP's in ABQ ..LOL) which is the largest and Imo the one of the nicer hotels/ Lodges to stay at. I plan to base the trip out of Ouray / TP's Lodge.
Ouray Colorado Twin Peaks Lodge & Hot Springs
They will give us a nice grp rate, they can definitely accommodate a large group. They have king rooms, dbl queen, family rooms with bunk beds. We get a family room with the kids and its great. $$$ range about a $100 a night at the grp rate, of course this is subject to change until I reserve a block of rooms. Plan on 3 nights( Fri , Sat, Sun)checking out Monday AM.
Once we have some solid conformations on who is going I will reserve a block of rooms then each person will have to call and secure there room from our group package. Some may want to share larger rooms. When you sign up to attend please specify what kinda room you will want, how many people, pets and or if you are not planning to say with the group at the Lodge. Timing is important if you want a room, respond ASAP. Lodging at TP's Lodge is not required to attend.

Basic trail options are Easy - Moderate - Difficult : We can make trail choises based on our grp. There is a ton of options for us. Everything in the San Juans is amazing. Like of the Iconic trails Bruce mentioned we should plan do some of them. My self I am hoping we run a few of the "Jeep Badge of Honor trails", so we cam make a mark for our NM group.
Badge of Honor | Off Road Trails, Jeep Life, Trail Badge | Jeep

If you don't have a guide to Colorado's trails FunTreks Guide Books and Electronic Trail Guides - FunTreks Guidebooks for Jeep Trails, 4 Wheel Drive Trails, and back country roads I would recamend getting one off amazon. One of the most complete guides to all the trails with way-points, trail difficulty, etc. and a must for any Off-Roader.

As we get a little further in to this we can fine tune the exact trails tailored to the groups wants and abilities. Anyone can go, no Jeeper is counted out. We will make it work. There are a few basic things everyone will need to bring. First aid kit, fire extinguisher, Water, trail food, hot, cold, wet weather clothing, flash light, etc. Its never a good idea to go Off-roading with out the simple stuff that can save your life. I also highly recamended a CB radio. It will help for general info and communication is always a plus on the trail. At a bare minimum your rig must have 4wd, Lo-range, recovery points and a full size spare.

Well this gives everyone the basics and if this trip is for you, I hope you can attend. We would like to keep it down to 10 Rigs many more than that it gets very time consuming. If we have a major interest we can look into adding more. Stock or built rigs, everyone is good to go.
Starting a list of confirmed and possible attending. Please send me (Big-T) a PM with your info.

Confirmed:
1. Darkfire - (2)
2. NM_JK - (5)
3. RoufusTBarleysheath - (2)

I plan to be up there Friday, stay 1 night, drive Saturday and head to Pagosa Springs on Saturday night to visit girlfriend.

If I get Sunday off, will stay 2 nights and head to Pagosa Springs on Sunday, still working on getting Sunday off work.

Sounds good Bruce, hope you can get your Sunday off. I have held off a few days reserving the block of rooms giving folks sometime to work out their details etc, so we can get a better group rate.

Anyone thinking of doing this trip with us, but is worried about their Jeep making it, in 2011 a friend in a rental Jeep did the trails we plan to do and last weekend my friend in a stock 2013 Toyota 4x4 pickup (non TRD) did the Alpine loop. The only trail they did not do was the first part, just outside of Ouray, Mineral Creek. I think that if you look this up and the other trails we plan to do, Engineer, Cinnamon, Imagene, Ophir that a rental Jeep and stock Toyota did, Well I hope you will consider coming along.

Lodging in Ouray: A waiting return call for Twin Peaks Lodge for discounted group rate. Please plan to secure your room in the next 48 hrs as their room availability for this weekend this getting thin fast. Please remember TP's will only hold you room with a CC and does not charge any fees until check-in. So I recommend if you are planning to attend reserve your room after today because you can cancel if needed with 48 hrs of check-in date, or you may have to make other lodging arrangement's. Starting tomorrow the room block should be available, please PM me for group code. Thanks Troy

Troy-
Were you able to find out about dogs and if it would apply to the rooms they are willing to give us? I believe their website says they have some pet friendly rooms...

Lots of water, just had to hook tree strap to my gate post and winch 'er in the drive way!! Np, glad I could lend a hand! Thanks for the hook up on the clips, got all the parts rounded up and fenders are getting chopped tomorrow, unless my rig floats away tonight.

I am jealous! We just got back from Ouray, and wow is all I can say. We rented a JKUR for two days and ended up doing two of the badge trails with out knowing about the badges. Y'all are going to have a great time. We stayed at the 4 J camp ground. It was very nice and right in town. We have already made our reservations for next year. Imogene was by far our favorite. Have fun.
