Take Alemeda/528 North into Rio Rancho to Southern and turn Left heading West to the end of town. Keep going about 1 mile or so past the end of the asphalt to the sand dunes/ big hill in front of you. That area is known as the airdown. We are meeting at 9am and will roll out by 10am.
Welcome to the area.
Here's the aerial

All in all a good day out. I was able to put the Pentastar to the test buy pulling out Todd in his F-250 from the Rock Garden to the pavement. He lost his Clutch but it was a smooth recovery.
SLA, thanks for joining us today. I hope we can show you more on future runs.

Update. The Rio Puerco is now officially closed. We will have to find another backyard. Looks like everything West of the Powerlines and from the Double Eagle Airport to King Ave. near the Santa Anna Star Center. You will be Trespassing if found Law enforcement. This letter was recently served to someone at night at the airdown by the Sandoval County Sheriff's. A new owner is looking to develop the area as well as build a new water plant for Rio Rancho. They are tired if the trash, vandalism, and disrespect of the cattle in the area. The whole area is private land.

So, myself having been bred&spread in the S.E. Unites States ( between Nashville and Atlanta) I have always envied my fellow Jeepers that live out in the S.W. where the air is dryer and the sun a little brighter and the awesomeness that is the desert is accessible. With that being said & after reading this thread , I am left wondering how on earth it would be enforceable if you were to wheel your tiny little ( relative, guys, relative to the question; i know yours aren't "tiny" Jeeps. I mean in comparison to the size area we are talking about ) Jeeps thru the area I see between where your map is set with a star and the immediate 2.5-3.0 miles to it's West. I se there is a native American reservation at round 3.0-3.5 miles due West but between that and the star is about 2.5 miles of varying terrain - some, mind you, with what appear to be crevasses and cliffs or dunes - suitable for a quick hide. I just never understood how you cant romp off into any point of the desert that one wishes. Now, I know territory is a guarded and big deal; all Americans carry heat; this is still the wild, wild west! I dont invade turf or break laws but I cant imagine how many police or sherrif deputies it'd take to try and prevent an off road Jeep from accessing that area unless it was fenced off. What are the charges if you are? " Oh, your Honor; he was off-roading in a proposed development in the middle of the freaking desert." " Lock him up!"
lol.
Make meth? ok- go to jail. Just wheelin a Jeep around a big old empty spot of mother earth and not doing so in the middle of where children play? go ahead.
Am i wrong about this? That is an AWFUL big area we are talking about.

Airplanes, helo's and limited ingress and egress. That means in and out.
Bottom line....... you are trespassing. Only thing "wild" about the old west is Jt. And he doesnt want to go back to prison. This aint Nashville son.
