Puerco is CLOSED!!!

For those of you that do not know, the Puerco - west of the power lines to the Reservation is PRIVATE LAND. You are considered to be trespassing.

New Mexico Off Highway Vehicle Alliance -
"It is a fact that the area described is private land and anyone who goes out there does so at their own risk."

If you have any questions or comments, you can contact Chuck Warner. His number is - (480) 294-0073. He is the VP of the land management company, Recorp, that manages that land

The picture you find attached to this thread is being handed out by Sandavol County Sheriff's Department.

So the Rio might be closing soon.. but that sure doesn't look like an official document to me...
I think once it does come it will look more like a paper that lawyers wrote then someone seating at a bar...

does suck because it will be many years before anything gets built out there..

I also think its funny that there's no 'NO TRESPASSING' signs anywhere. At least that I've seen

So...I decided to call Chuck myself, and he answered. We had a lengthy conversation. In short..

Recorp owns 30 acres that goes from west of the power-lines to the Reservation, and it borders what King Ranch owns. He said they are attempting to put a water treatment facility on the property, but they cannot move forward with their operation until they get the individuals off the property. They have installed security cameras to monitor the activity on the land. They have also hired individuals to monitor the activity on the land and to interact with those individuals to get information. They are in the process to start prosecuting trespassers.

Chuck said he has been involved with the off-road community his entire life, but the fact is that Recorp has owned that land for 27 years. They have not given any permission or permits to allow any activity on their land to include Cinco de Baja. Their intention is not to hurt or go after the off-road community. Their intention is to use their land for the water treatment facility and whatever else they choose to use it for. They plan on possibly allowing certain portions to be used by OHVs, but this will be in the future and will be a permit-based park (or something like that).

They have attempted to post no trespassing signs and some fencing in the past, but all that keeps getting vandalized.

He said, if you have any questions, anyone can call his phone number. He was on his way out to the property.

At the end of the day, if you are on any of that property, you are on private land and trespassing.

30 acres would be a very small area... that would seem to be a minute fraction of the acreage out there...

So, what exactly does a private property owner, limiting access to his property have to do with POTUS?

This is not a govt issue other than the land owners selleng some of their land to RR to build a Drinking Water Treatment plant to serve the public.

The starred locations in the area makes Rio Puerco Area are the common obstacles such as Snoopy and the Garden. Everywhere we have enjoyed out there is currently as of now trespassing. All surrounding areas are to my understanding private land owned by the King family (cattle) ranch.

I would like to see the offroad community come together on this and support the land owners in hopes that we may gain an official area to wheel in. Back east they have ohv parks where you basically pay a fee and sign a waiver to play in a maintained park with natural and man made obstacles. This could in the end turn out to be a good thing if we all show that we care. We see that from Walle contacting the company that the VP is a part of the offroad community and seems to be open to this idea. Be respectful and maybe we will come out on top on this one.
Patience.
I myself have property elsewhere from where I live that I cannot be at every day and expect that others don't go and trash my land just because I'm not there as often as I like. Lets keep our trails clean and open.

What about when it goes right. RR is building a water plant due to the economy growing in that area. Means growth in a positive direction. The entire area from the Rio Grande near Cottonwood mall to the Volcanoes including Ventana Ranch that is now filled with homes and businesses was owned by the Blacks family ranch. The remainder around the airport is still owned by that family.

Recorp owns 30 acres of the property that includes the entry from southern. ALL the land out there is private property, so if you choose to go out there, you are trespassing.

Chuck said they want to make part of it an OHV park, but that will depend on the liability and coat of insurance. Don't plan on it becoming available to the public.

Sucks that they have to worry about liability and being sued. We all go out there the liability on each of us and no one else.

It's King road on the Northern Westside entrance to the Santa Anna Star Center.

Power Lines to the Reservation, County line to the Star Center.

The stars inside the map are some of the obstacles like Snoopy and the Rock Garden. The right most being the airdown.

thanks Tim. Yea, that is a lot more than 30 acres. I didn't realize that King Blvd was the same. It doesn't seem to run out to the ridge so didn't see it. Going that far north sure takes a lot out.

Funny how this all comes up right after the first Flash Gear run for the Wounded Worriers the area gets shut down. Call me a paranoid but looks to me like some liberal but head saw this and all the good that was in it and said "We just can't have Americans doing good for other Americans unless it supports our Liberal agenda" or something to that affect. People have been wheeling out there for as long as I have lived here. That is 40 year plus. Never had any major problems and for the most part people took care of the area. I always thought the land past the ridge and into the valley was government land. Maybe this land should be transformed into a State or Federal park area.
There will always be those few “A” holes that leave trash and don’t stay on the trails but that is where the rest of us come in and get these people in line.

I was talking to a guy who wheels heavy in the Puerco. He mentioned there's been talk with the land owners who all appear to be on board with setting up an OHV park as long as the community maintains the area. So I think we just need to be positive and patient. From doing some research I discovered on some different state maps that there are several water well sites as well as several watering holes for cattle. We have idiots as recently as last month who were shooting cattle for fun. This makes me sick. They then tried to say it was some kind of offroad club initiation. It was total BS. It got a few groups talking in order to clear the air.

Makes me wonder who we can contact for the Puerco area when we catch these morons in the act?

The land owners just don't want to have their property that they work hard for destroyed.

And that is why I stay out of there. The landowners have expressed their right of not wanting people to be on their land, but it seems like people don't give two shits about their landowner's wishes.
