Rio Puerco and The Lone Ranger

The ABQ Journal and NM Magazine are saying that they built the town for The Lone Ranger on/or around the Rio Puerco. The Journal showed a star near I40 and Rio Puerco. Couldn't really tell if it was north or south of I40.

Does anyone know where the set is/was? Sounds like a Jeep trip to me.

You can see it on google earth. It north of i40 a couple of miles just east of the actual Puerco wash itself. The train tracks are a big oval with a sour heading south-ish for a bit. With the "town" along the tracks of the oval.

It's pretty cool to see all of the in progress stuff on google earth/google maps of the set.

Just checked it again on Google Maps. It's due west of the Shooting Range park.

Follow the road to the east of the Puerco at the the Rt 66 Casino and you'll run in to it. The group of cars is where all the crew parked, then a few miles further north is the spur of the RR tracks with some sets, then comes the giant oval track of the RR tracks with the town and the giant tent for craft services, trailers, etc. Can't miss it.

When your heading down I-40 to 66 and get off the freeway. There's a gas station 66 pit stop I believe in back of that is a road. If you take it out about 2 miles you come to the set its all flat land nothing there. I delivered to the set many tomes actually to all there sets.

If you are talking north of the gas station going towards Snoopy rock, there is nothing there now. The wife and I drove out to Snoopy Sunday and other than the road being really muddy in spots, only thing we saw out there is a solar farm and what may be whats left of the site. Looks like moving out almost complete, just some odds and ends.

would have been fun to see if still there. Thanks for all the replies. Haven't made the trek from the end of Southern out to I40 yet. Want to do it soon though.

Guess I could see where it was?

Well not always. There was the "Martian" subway at the top of White Mesa for over a decade.
