Why are Jeep prices so inflated?

Been looking for a 1st Jeep for my 16 year old son. Every one of these individuals selling Jeep is pricing the 4cyl, 187k miles, rusted out, top needing rigs any where from $4700-7800. Age of the vehicle doesn't matter. It's ridiculous.

Supply and demand. People want jeeps. There are deals out there but your going to have to wait for one to pop up. A yj is going to be your best bet. No one likes them because they have square headlights. Good luck.

Feel your pain. Just be patient. A lot has to so with location to but mostly timing.
$5k should be able to get you a early Tj.
Look for somebody that's ready for a trade in and jump in.

They're not just a popular off-road vehicle, Jeeps are also a hobby, a heritage, a way of life, model JK made them more main stream. When you buy one, you'll see it's something special even with its flaws.

Couldn't agree more. My wife found my old 93' YJ we sold yrs ago, it just happen to be for sale locally. Its defiantly not the same jeep we sold, its completely warn out, just about on its last leg from years of neglect from multiple owners. We wanted to buy it and fix it up for our son's first Jeep. I was hopping to pic it up for a reasonable price, the seller is / was asking 10k for it.... it might be worth $2500 at most. Just crazy.

I've made a few very fair offers and these individuals are holding out for stooges to come along.

Keep looking. I bought one that was sitting on the side of the road for sale. The first time I stopped to look it was priced at KBB. A couple months later it was still there and I purchased for 2/3 KBB (clean 06 with 72K miles priced same as 98-99 with 125K+ on Craigslist). Let your friends and neighbors know you're looking and the price range you're looking in and one will turn up.

How much of the over-pricing is due to the failed stimulus efforts of obama? They crushed a lot of good cars.

Keep watching Craigslist. Have the cash ready. I got my 94 YJ for $2800. Seller was asking $3500. I was in the right place at the right time with CASH.

It's a New Mexico thing I am in the same boat as you. I have been looking for a few months now and only missed out on one I really wanted. It was posted on like a Monday and was gone before I could look at it on the weekend.

I should have added there are some jeeps currently on Craigslist in cruces and El Paso that are fairly priced.
