??? about Texas hunting regs.....

Quick question (or a few) for you Texas hunters.......

Does anyone know of any good pig hunting areas somewhere in the north/northeast portion of the state? I'm from Kansas, but I want to get down your way to kill some pigs sometime this summer. If anyone has any information they'd like to throw my way, I'd sure appreciate it. Tips, tricks, whatever. Thanks guys. EDIT: And gals. Gotta stay politically correct...

check on craigslist under the farm section. I see pig hunts in the Austin version all the time. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I'll start checking CL tonight!

Anywhere there are woods? Hog are overrunning the Texas louisianna border. And they just opened hog season to year round weapon of choice. I usually prefer my German shepherd and an 8 inch bowie knife. Grab a tusk tackle aim for throat.

That doesn't help me much. In Kansas, if you're caught hunting on someone's land without permission, there's a chance you'll be going home with birdshot in your ass. What I'm looking for is either public hunting areas or cooperative ranch/farm owners. I'm a long range kind of guy, so my weapon of choice lets me drop them up to 1200m away.

you definantly want to make sure you have permission to be on someones property inTexas. You very well might get shot at if someone sees you walking around with a gun. Tresspassing laws are pretty strict as well. any luck on craigslist?

I'll start checking out the CL ads the closer we get to summer. I'm hoping to get down that way sometime in the early summer if my flying schedule will allow it. I'm going on a prairie dog hunt over Memorial Day weekend in southwestern Kansas....my Army/hunting buddies and I plan on trying to finalize the hog hunt plans that weekend.

Ahhh prarie dogs. Two years ago I shot one in SD at 873yds by GPS with my 308. Still waiting for the 1k+.

Hogs are a fun easy kill. Center mass just behind the front shoulder and down they go. No fight to them at all.

I'll be taking one of my .308s for the prairie dogs. I also just built another M4 that I plan on taking and getting the bugs worked out of it. Should be fun.

If you are in the military you should try and hunt at FT Hood for pigs. There are plenty of them. If you do come down towards Austin or Hood shoot me a PM. I should be back from deployment by then. Might be able to set you up to hunt somewhere else on private land in that area. No promises but I can always ask some friends.

Will do, and thanks for the invite. Come home safe. And secure some heartbeats for me!
