Thanks for your service.
As far as trails there is general sams in huntsville, but thats like 80 or 90 miles from huntington if I recall correctly. I just moved to the huntsville area and thats the only place I've found. I'm sure there is something closer, but there are plenty of fun, easy trails at sams. I'm always down to go out there if you go you can give me a shout on here.

I'm located in Gilmer, and I'm not familiar with any "clubs". Just know a lot of folks ride out at Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer.

If someone wanted to live in east Texas away from the big cities (this only includes Dallas and Houston), where would you go and why (note, only as a newcomer to the area)? I'm looking to see where the best economy in east Texas is away from those big cities.

By the way, I consider Houston to be in southeast Texas, not east Texas. I have a friend who has a house in San Augustine, so when he is going up to the house, he'll say, "I'll be going up to east Texas this weekend," and I know it means his house.

Honestly, I wouldn't really choose East Texas depending on where you are coming from. If you are looking for economy including oil and maybe lumber, I wouldn't really considered east Texas. Central Texas, namely the Hill country has a good econony, reasonable driving distance to Austin area or San Antonio all while not being quite as trashy as some areas of East Texas. I have lived in both and am avidly attempting to get back to the hill country. I live outside of Huntsville now and am fairly familiar the more southern half of East Texas. I am a Paramedic and it is a close knit community and I know folks all over. It seems that the further east you go in every state/city/county the worse it is, almost universally. Where you considering moving from?

Not sure where to go, but as much as I hate Houston traffic and everything, it still has a great economy and my job is here.

General Sam's is all right, mostly mud. And the mud is more clay than anything, so it really doesnt matter what tires you have, you will get stuck. The clay just fills the grooves, last time I was there I saw a monster YJ on about 44's get stuck in not the deep of mud. Still fun, there is 1 rock crawling area, I found it the first time I was there and haven't been able to find it since. The park is huge at roughly 700 acres. I want to go to Marble Falls and go to Hidden Falls Adventure Park, I know the owners (thats where i am from) and they said its a blast.
