Gun Barrel City near Athens here, we've been going to Shiloh Ridge near Alto lately. I haven't been to the place near Gilmer yet. Alto Has some fun hills and lots of creek crossings that are fun. We were thinking about going again this Saturday evening and wheeling that night and Sunday.

so did you go wheelin after all this rain. I just got back from a local spot here. I was tempted to cross the creek but didnt want to chance it with the high water. I ve gone through the creek plenty of times with low water but I think the water is high enough right now it nmight have come in the cab.

I have lived in both and am avidly attempting to get back to the hill country. I live outside of Huntsville now and am fairly familiar the more southern half of East Texas. I am a Paramedic and it is a close knit community and I know folks all over. It seems that the further east you go in every state/city/county the worse it is, almost universally. Where you considering moving from?
Don't let the door hit you on the ass as you go back west to anywhere else but East Texas. We are avidly wishing you a good trip back to the hill country. I hope your paramedic skills are better than your grammatical skills. Not that I owe it to your "better than you" mind set but I was an ambulance jockey back when all we had was a Federal Q, a back board, and O2 and you were either in a diaper or not thought of yet. BTW, how long have you owned a Jeep and did you buy it or build it?

What's it like up there? I'm considering the area, not as a place to live at this time, but as a place of refuge from the big city. I would be looking several miles out of town so that Nac' doesn't run me over like Austin did in the Lake Travis area in the 90s. I do not want to live through that again.

The idea of going to east Texas versus the hill country is just that - most people don't seem to want it. I want to get AWAY from people. The hill country is beautiful, BUT it's too close to the big cities and most likely will get filled in before east Texas does before I have done my time on Earth.

The Hill Country is pure Texas. Presidio is pure TX. Corpus, Texarkana, even Amarillo--Texas. Houston & DFW, not so much, but S.A. is.., ElPaso is Arizona, maybe...Find Rocksprings-- that is Texas.

Thanks for the update. East Texas is where Texas was born. The rest of the state was made possible because the war of Texas Independance was won here. THE PURE TEXAS...............!

Lufkin now has a chapter of Tx4wd going. Had two meetings so far and will be making the first club run in Sep at Shilo Ridge in Alto. It is a club for all 4x4's not just jeeps. Just figured I would put it out there for anyone wanting to join up in a free 4x4 club.
