Austin and Surrounding Areas

New TJer here. Just found it with 78K miles. She's got a couple leaky gaskets but we'll be fixing her back up.

Sound off boys and girls!..who's active? Jeep wave

Thanks for the welcome! We had a good time this weekend cruisin around with the top off. (Still need some practice and tricks getting it back on faster.) We gave some jeep waves got a few back and surprised a few that weren't expecting it. I ride a bike too so I'm used to the "cup a butterfly wave". I find it funny that there is a hierarchy on the jeep wave. A friend of mine drives a lifted XJ. He was telling me he doesn't get to many waves from the Wrangler community and don't be surprised if they don't wave back. haha I'll wave at them all. It's like riding..I have a Harley but it's not beneath me to wave at a scooter or crotch rocket. I love the reaction from scooter when they are like "holy sh!t that Harley just waved". LOL Two wheels is two wheels same as a Jeep. Shoot I think I wave at everybody. I have an F250 and if I am next to one I'll give 'em a nod. The jeep for us is not a DD. It's a toy so we're smiling and waving when we're driving. We bought it for my wife and as long as she keeps "thinking" it's hers we're good. hahaha

Hey guys! I'm in austin as welland am picking up my 2 half door 2014 JK Willy thursday! I kinda laughed when they asked me if I wanted a hard top. ;-) Does anyone 'round here ever get together to hit up trails in the area? I'd love to learn how to use the Jeep off road and this will be my first one so, I may need a little help figuring some things out...

It should be quite the adventure...

Good deal, congrats on the new rig. honestly I wish I had a hard top from time to time, especially for the winter months. I am not familiar with any clubs in the Austin area, but if you find some one and get to know them they would be more than willing to help you learn and enjoy your new rig. Wheeling is fun and easy, and can be expensive from time to time. I may be heading out towards Marble falls this weekend, I am really wanting to check it out. I will definitely post if I am. If you ever have any questions, hit up the forums. tons of knowledge out there and most folks are more than willing to share. welcome to jeepin!

Congrats on the new Jeeps, Peeps, like Drg82 said. If your looking for a spot to wheel, the place is called "Hidden Falls" just outside of the town of Marble falls. You can go by yourself and I'm 100% positive you'll run into plenty of people on the trails that you can follow around and get advise, help, and experience and make some Jeep friends there.

Bosman,

Being in Burnet I assume you have been to Hidden Falls. If so whats your take on it? I do a lot of little things around where I am at, just trying to get a couple friends of mine to head down to Hidden Falls with me. If not I plan on going and linking up with folks on the ground there. Any input would be appreceiated, thanks

Hidden Falls is a great time, but I would recommend that you either go with someone or find some one there. Also, a winch would be a good idea. Lots of fun to be had, but bring lots of water as it can get pretty dusty.

I wouldnt go any onther way. I'm set up for self recovery and have had to in the past lol. I never wheel alone, not the smartest idea IMO. Only problem is i am fairly new to tx and my good buddies I used to go with all the time are in other states and countries. As for turkey run i never heard of that place, but i would definitely check it out. I am itching to test my new driveshaft, my 4wd was out due to my cv joint went south. got a tom woods and I am happy with the quality. for the price compared to a oem shaft you would be foolish to go the oem route! thanks for the info, perhaps We'll meet on the trails

Hey guys, wife and I here in Cedar Creek between Austin and Bastrop. If you are on the south side and want to get together for a beverage, let us know. We are also up for a trip sometime, let us know.

We joined the Austin Jeep Exclusive, which is a very well organized club. They are going to Katamancy this weekend. Unfortunately we aren't going because of a previous engagement. I think the meeting is next week as well if you are interested in meeting the folks there. You can see more about them here - https://austinjeepexclusive.shutterfly.com

WM,

I dont get down in the Austin area often. I would come check out a Jeep night. Do you know of any area establishments that host such an event?

I know it's a drive, but Jeep Nation in San Antonio is meeting tonight. Old West Burgers on Loop 1604. Last month we had 131 Jeeps in attendance. Our meeting are always well attended. Come on down and join us.

Austin JeepPeople have meet ups almost every Friday at various locations. This weekend we'll be meeting Sunday at Mesa Rosa on 620 in Round Rock at 4:00.

There is a Hidden Falls "Beginner Run" next weekend and almost always several people heading out for more adventurous runs just about every weekend.

Most AJP communications occur on the Facebook page, but there is also an underutilized "new" website with forums. People just haven't moved away from their comfort zone of the FB community. Anyway ... It's free to join. Hope to see you out sometime! :-)

New Jeep owner in Cedar Park here. Any advice for a place I can go with my wife and 2.5 year old and drive off road but not get into a situation where a novice will screw something up? I'm just talking for a couple of hours here, too. Just wanting to try out my new toy/daily driver without doing something stupid.

Krieg, really your closet place will be hidden Falls unless you know someone with private land. You can go pretty mild at HF and still have a good time. Congrats on the new jeep.

I was at Hidden Falls for the first time Friday in my stock JKUR. Planned to stay on the easy trails. The map is confusing and the trails not all marked. After I finished I found out I had been on several 3's and 4's. Made it okay but had to get out and pile rocks to get up one ledge. Used 4 lo with both diffs locked several times, but had a blast and hope to go back soon. BTW, I'm a novice at this.

This is at Hidden Falls with a plain ol sport, stock hight, stock radial tires. If you run into anything too dificult just go around that obstacle.
