Beach driving from A to B

Howdy fellow Jeepers,

Heading to Austin tomorrow for spring break, then heading to the coastline on Tuesday and I'm looking for a section of beach that we can drive along in one direction and get back towards the Galveston area. Any thoughts on where to go? I've only been to Galveston and that was years ago, so I'm a newb to the TX coastal areas at the moment.

I'm planning on a drive south from Austin through Bastrop & La Grange, then to El Campo or Victoria and then on to the beach to head east towards the Galveston area.

Any advice is sure appreciated.

Thanks & God Bless,
Benjy

Benjy, I would say take 59N up to Hwy 6 west and then take the back way into Galveston from there jump onto the ferry to Boliver and ride the beach all the way past High Island to 71 and take that to 10 and back up to 71 and home. I will be making my way out to Galveston most likely on Friday.

Trip report - Doesn't look like you can take Hwy 60 down through Matagorda, onto the beach and the 25 miles or so east to the Lake Jackson / Freeport area. Still had fun, beach was nice & quiet, just a few spring breakers although a few of em did churn up the sand a bit in spots so that a car couldn't get past. Didn't see anything that I'd need 4wd for out there, nothing like what I was on back east. Did hear that Aransas Pass has plenty of loamy sand for testing the 4wd. Maybe Memorial Day weekend I'll get a chance to test the sand down there.
